Baby teeth & adult bite Mia has about 3 baby teeth that have not fallen out and the big girl teeth are right behind them! It looks like they are crowding her bit. When they do come out will her bite go back to its lovely self or will this be an issue? She goes to her personal care physician tomorrow but thought I would ask experienced hands at this. We have kidded her that if this is permanent she may have to get braces for a while.......:aimeeyork I am worried! |
Both of my boys had to have baby teeth pulled when they were neutered at 6-7 months. Maximo had 5 pulled and Teddy had 1 pulled. |
My vet has recommended pulling the baby teeth out if they are still in by 7 months to avoid any negative effects on the bite. I think it all depends on the dog, where the baby teeth are located and what their starting to throw off. One of my girls didn;t have her last two baby teeth extracted until she was 9 months of age and it was affecting her bite at the time...but her bite shifted back to perfect within a couple months after that. Sometimes you can help those baby teeth come out by themselves by wiggling them. I did this for my Bailey. She had 2 baby teeth remaining at just under 7 months. They both came out after about 2 weeks of my wiggling around :) How old is your Mia? Your vet can give you a better recommendation based on what he or she sees in her mouth. |
Thanks! Yes the vet is going to take them out in 2 weeks when we have her special surgery done. She is such a wonderful little one and I won't take any chances with her life. She has the adults right behind which is why the vet says they need to come out and that she routinely has little ones that need those babies removed. Thanks for the guidance and helps me know that all is normal and great! Mia is not happy, 2 sho*s and a blood draw... But doing ok, she got a chicken treat when she came back to work. |
We are still healing from having teeth removed, Claire was spayed early so she had to go back and have the baby teeth extracted :( Your baby will do fine!! :) Neither procedure was as bad on her as I expected!! |

The upper canines came in on the natural jaw line directly behind the baby teeth. At 7 months the baby teeth had not loosened at all (and they didn't seem crowded so I don't think anything would have ever pushed them out of the way to loosen up), so they were pulled when she was spayed. |
Those are the teeth she las left over and one of her front teeth. But 2 of the canines has now fallen out but 2 have not and 1 of her fronts, and yes the adults are right behind the babeis. Phew, just another it happens with yorkies moments. You know us first time yorkie moms worry about the darndest of things. |
Ziva had 7 teeth removed when spayed at 6 1/2 months, by the next day you couldn't even tell and her little teeth are perfect. The double set was way more uncomfortable than the actual extraction, the gums just tightened right over the regular teeth rather than swollen over both. |
