Help, My yorkie's breath stinks Hi guys once again, I need help my yorkie is 10 weeks old female she is the most loveable dog i love her up as much as i can but recently her breath is starting to stink, what can i do to get rid of her bad breath or reduce the smell of it??? |
I started using vanilla toothpaste and that helps a lot! |
Make sure you are using a good quality dog food and brush her teeth every day. (That stage where they start loosing their puppy breath is rough!) |
I heard that they get really stinky breath when they start to loose there puppy teeth.. I think there is a spray you can get from the vets or pet shop to help :) |
More than likely the cause of her bad breath is teething. You should be brushing her teeth a couple of times a week regardless, but the odor should disappear once she's done teething. |
It could be the food she's eating and the teething but just to make sure there is not an underlaying cause like a gum disease or a digestive problem you could have her checked by your vet... |
My baby Baylee had the same problem. Its more than likely just the fact that the puppy is teething. I remember Baylee's smelled awful! Just make sure you brush the puppy's teeth and give it lots of chew things like hides and ropes to play with. My Baylee is a year and a half old and just had to have one of her baby teeth pulled out surgically yesterday. Her top left canine was retained and we had to get it out before it rotted the other teeth. I suggest you try and watch the teeth as they fall out and get an early jump on loosening those canines so that you dont have to have them surgically removed. Its no fun! :( |
Brushing their teeth every day helps... and if you find a brand of doggie toothpaste that they like they even can be tricked into thinking it's a treat. I also occasionally feed z-ridge alfalfa flavored bones by zuke... they are healthy grain free chew... they even come in bags of bones for 5lb dogs... (poor harley is only 3ls so he only gets half a day). If you can't get the small ones the bigger ones are fine, just only let them chew parts of it daily. I find these give Harley somewhat fresh breath too. |

Gum disease would be uncommon in a pup this young . but never say never. Digestive problems and food, maybe more likely. My boy went through teething with no discernable smell to his mouth. But he chewed up everything in site. lol. And he was home fed. So next visit to your vet mention this. You should be brushing at least a few times a week, if only to get your pup used to having their mouth examined and teeth touched. |
I home cook fior ruby and her breath started to smell terrible. it smelled like her food only rotten, so i checked her teeth and sure enough she had a very loose on in the back. I pgot her rope toy and we started playing, the tooth popped right out and it was an immediate improvement on her breath. Since then she's lost 4 more. Two while I was brushing her teeth and one just fell out. My son found it on the floor. Leslie |
oops... lots of typos. She's lost 3 more. :) |
Izzy's breathe stunk SOOOOOO bad when she was teething...I tried EVERYTHING!! Brushing her teeth, changing her food....Finally I bought the Dried Chicken strips with parsely and mint...(all natural) She loved them and her breathe was alittle better But it's was due to her teething so hang in there :) |
