help in puppy food.. worried :confused:My puppy is 7 month and i try so many different food and he eats it for liek 3 days and then he hates it.. i try blue buffalo, natural balance, kibbles, royal canin, eukanuba, natural recipes... ect... and i just got Purina Puppy Chow jsut to try it and he loves it .. the things is i hear this food is realllllllll bad and cheap for dogs what should i do if this is the one he finally eats? :( |
It's like giving your kids McDonalds ... of course they like it! But it is AWFUL for them. I would recommend taking one of the foods you've already gotten(but not the Purina) and heating it w/ a little chicken broth. You can also sprinkle a little cheese or even use peas/carrots to mix in. Mine is not a kibble lover but I pack it in the kong and seal with liver, p'nut butter or frozen plain yogurt. Then she thinks its a tasty treat. I would also try finding a holistic or non-pets mart doggy store... sometimes they will give you samples of different food so you don't have to waste $$. Oh also if you go there try the Stella & Chewy's dehydrated raw. If Kasha wont eat anything else ... she will eat that and it's AWESOME for them! |
Have you tried raw food? My girl loves it and cleans her dish immediately. I use Primal foods. Cherie |
Try Taste of the Wild My dog really likes it. It has a strong smell to it. He won't eat Blue Buffalo anymore after eating TOTW. It's not too expensive either. I get it at Tractor Supply. It comes in three different flavors, so you cold buy three five lbs. bags and switch it up quite a bit. |
Not an expert by any form of my imagination, but I tried a lot of different kibble too I would sprinkle things on it, broth, can food, baby food..... The lady at the specialty store gave me a sample of natures variety raw. Allie hasn't ever eaten this way. She loves it!! |
I am going through the same thing with my little girl. I even tried the raw and she loved it at first, but won't eat it now. I thinking about order some samples online to try and find something she likes better. Good Luck with your puppy. |
thanks for your reply.. The thing is he eats it in the beggining then just suddenly stops and won't eat it at all.. |
I concur with the others that recommend trying raw. I have a VERY picky 14 year old Maltese that has never eaten well. It was always very stressful and a HUGE struggle trying to get her to eat. The best I could do was to find a kibble that she liked, and put it down for grazing, knowing that when she got hungry enough, she would eat. About 4 months ago, I gave raw a shot (commercially prepared frozen -- Nature's Variety). I have never seen anything like it. She whimpers for it. She eats it immediately, as soon as I put it down. Not only does she lick her bowl clean, she goes and checks out my Yorkie pup's dish, too, to see if there is any left there (never is, but she checks anyway). Give it a shot. It isn't gross, it looks just like canned food, but, IMO, doesn't smell strong like the canned stuff. It comes in small medallions so that you can thaw just what you need, a little at a time. |
You can also try mixing different things with the kibble like another poster suggested. Lucy loves: cottage cheese; plain yogurt (unflavored); carrots; green beans; shredded cheese; chicken broth unsalted; and canned chicken from Wellness. She also likes egg noodles with a little broth on her food. |

I was going to recommend Stella and Chewy's also, most picky dogs love. These are the Freeze Dried Dinners: Stella and Chewy's |
NOW! is another one you could consider, I've heard of a few really picky dogs liking it, and it's healthy for them. you could also try adding something like trippet to the diet as well. it may help them eat it more. |
