Natural Choice food??? Anyone have any experience with Natural Choice food? Is it any good? |
If you mean "Nutro" Natural Choice, I personally wouldn't feed it. They've had alot of issues and recalls, I just don't trust them. Plus, for the price, you could find a much better quality food. Google "Nutro Consumer Affairs". |
I would like to know that too. Just started my almost 8 week old puppy on Natural Choice Lamb and Rice after slowly switching over from Iams puppy food that the breeder gave him. This was suggested by the dog trainer at a local Petco since it is supposed to be much better (no corn meal etc.). I'd appreciate feedback from someone who actually feeds that to their baby. Also, how much does a 2.3 pound 8week puppy eat? I put out moistened food for him four times a day, about 1/3 cup each time and he barely eats half of that. I have to coax him to eat out of my hand since that seems too little. Is it enough food for him or am I being a bit paranoid? |

Is it Natural Choice or Natural Balance? ETA: My 8 pound dog eats 3/4 cup a day of food that is higher in protein/calories, but still not that different. |
It is Nutro Natural Choice. I thinik it says for a 3-15 pound dog, feed 1-2.5 cups a day (not at home right now so don't know the exact numbers). I figured if a 3 pound dog eats 1 cup, a 2.3 pound puppy should eat somewhere close to it. After reading so much about hypoglycemia in Yorkies I thought I'll err on the side of excess than sparse, but I must be overdoing it. |
Update I just found Nutro's website and their feeding guidelines for Natural Choice...says 3/4 to 1 1/4 cup for 3-5 lb, 6-11 week old puppy's. I must have been dreaming the previous feeding guideline numbers. So relieved now. Thank you Maximo. |

3/4 cup still sounds like too much to me. Maximo was 3 pounds when I brought him home at 12+ weeks and the instructions the breeder gave me were to feed him 1/4 cup Nutro twice a day. He did get 2 teaspoons yogurt and some little treats in addition. Also, I would highly recommend looking for another kibble. As Britster noted above, Nutro has had a lot of problems. I know people at Petco will recommend this food, but it isn't the best. |
Bentley is only 1.75lbs at 12 weeks and he would eat the whole bag if I let him. 1/4 twice a day seems like a lot for him. I was thinking 1/4 once daily. The whole food thing confuses me honestly. I certainly dont want him eating too little but I dont want to overfeed him either. And his little belly gets so swollen when I let him eat too much. I thought maybe I should split 1/4 into two meals. Is that not enough? |

1/4 cup split into two meals sounds good. You can always give a few more kibble for potty treats or training treats in between meals, especially because your boy is small and needs to keep a little something in his belly. |
Thank you Maximo.I have been giving too much. His size makes me so nervous. Hes the smallest dog I have ever had. The smallest one before him is my almost 20lb dachshund. So I am very overprotective with Bentley and just want to make sure everything I am doing is right. I was thinking he'd be around 6lbs as an adult when I got him but now Im not so sure. As long as he's healthy though. Just will have to be more protective if he is only around 3.5lbs. My cat could hurt him. Its crazy. But I love him SO SO much. Thanks again. This site is so helpful and Ive already met so many nice people that love their yorkie babies as much as we do. |
