Canine Teeth Winnie has lost all her teeth except the canines and now I can see that they are coming in and she will have double. I want to get her spayed soon but can I wait another month to see if these will fall out on their own? |
The extra teeth can easily be removed during her spay and the cost is fairly inexpensive. My vet charged 5 per tooth, but of course you can wait. I will tell you that generally if they aren't out by 7 months, they aren't coming out on their own. |
I called the vet to get Winnie in this coming week for her spay. She can get in but when I mentioned pulling her 4 canine baby teeth she said it is an EXTRA $41.25 PER TOOTH! I think I am going to cancel her spay and teeth removal and wait to see if they fall out. So my next question is, how long can I wait for these to fall out before she starts her first heat? She is 5 1/2 months right now. I heard the first heat can start at 6 months. Is it bad to spay after her heat? I have done some research on the site but haven't found a direct answer. Every puppy is different I guess. Any suggestions? Isn't that expensive for tooth removal? |
My vet wanted to wait until Bella was a year old because she was so small. She ended up losing her last tooth during the preop lab draws. They were holding her down and i looked on the table and said...oh look a tooth:D They saved me 20 bucks! She ended up having her first heat before I had her spayed. I was a little disappointed because I read that increased her risk for breast cancer. But I know there are tons of happy healthy dogs that are spayed later in life. I dont know the science behind it all... well I guess i was a lot of help:D |
We spayed around 7 months which our vet suggested because of the teeth. She pulled the canines and I think one or two others. She wasn't concerned about her going into heat at 7 months. I THINK (not sure here) that smaller dogs start heat a little later than larger dogs so 7 months is no problem. |
