How to get a table scraps fed dog to start eating kibble? My friend took in a dog recently whose previous owners fed him table scraps & their meal leftovers. She's now trying to feed him kibble and he REFUSING to eat any of it. I've given her some of Ariel's food (Ziwi Peak - it's air dried meat, not kibble) to give to the dog, but he isn't liking that either. Any ideas on how she can get her dog to start eating the kibble? |
Add a small enticement: sprinkle a little parmesan cheese on top of the kibble and/or feed a teaspoon of sweet peas. |
Don't give in he will eventually eat. |
Start by giving 1/4th cup of real food and add around 3 kibbles. Heat the kibble and real food together. Every three or four days, take out about a teaspoon of the real food and replace it with one more kibble. It's a very gradual process but it works if you stick to it untill there is very little real food with the kibble. Doesn't hurt to give some real food with the kibble each day. ;) |
Interested In kibble My son got a dog when she was 7 weeks old a yorkapoo. She would not eat puppy food or any dog food we bought. Sorry to say that she lived on human food for almost 12 years. Mainly rice, boiled chicken, carrots, etc. The food she got was not entirely bad for her but she wasn't getting the full nutients she needed from dog food. We purchased a bag of Taste of the Wild the Venison and bison flavor and she loves it. Did not have to encourage her she just devoured it. She has gained 3 lbs since she has been eating the food. Partly because she over eats now that she has found something she likes. |
Thanks, I'll will tell her about the suggestions. Hope they work! |
