Pet Insurance Plans I bought a pet insurance plan last year from GoPetPlan. I wasn't able to submit claims. They were very polite when I talked to them but when I finally was able to submit, they weren't paid. Also, they sent me a letter in the mail saying that my policy was not being renewed because that company had gone out of business and wasn't offering it. Then, they charged my credit card for renewal of the policy, without my permission, after I had said not to. I emailed them and told them the next person they would be talking to would be a lawyer. I have searched for complaints against them, did find some BBB complaints. Have heard good things about them and sure thought they were wonderful but as it turned out, I paid them for insurance I never received. I am now with ASPCA pet insurance. They do give what they promise. They haven't charged me without my permission and my dog is actually insured. Please, please, be careful about getting involved with GoPetPlan. Costs are similar at ASPCA and you can be sure that you are insured. I know our income is limited, which was the biggest reason we bought insurance and it would be heartbreaking to find out, if something major happened, that you weren't insured. As it was, we were out money from the premium we paid to them ($253+) and the visits we had to the doctor, it hurt us but nothing too serious. A good warning and we will stay away! They never would explain all the nonsense about cancelling the policy, even though I have the letter to prove it. Then, just recently they sent me a letter saying I cancelled the policy - oh please! Be safe, choose someone (like ASPCA) that you can really check out! |
Really??? I just called them and they are in business- I haven't had a problem with them |
I HAD VPI and thought it was HORRIBLE!! The didn't cover one cent of Teddi's liver shunt because they said they pay on final diagnosis and that they don't cover liver shunts. I think she should have paid at least some of the initial vet visits because I didn't take her to the vet for a liver shunt (I had never even heard of that). They also don't pay for any preventative dental (they will pay if you have severe dental problems but you would think they would like to prevent that but nope!). I finally realized that unless she got hit by a car they weren't going to cover anythings. I thought it was a huge waste of money. |
I haven't decided on any policy yet, I'm still looking. I thought PetPlan would be a good one. I talked to the guy, Mike, at length and he said that they cover all accidents or illnesses. That they only thing they don't cover are regular routine care.. :( |

Embrace also covers genetic problems just like PetPlan does, as long as they are not pre-existing at the time you enroll. www.embracepetinsurance.com |
I did look at embrace but for some reason, that I can't remember right now due to my complete brain fart, I opted for PetPlan. I think it was cheaper. |
I called Petplan and they said that it was because they changed ryders? and so when your coverage is up for the year they, by law have to send you a cancellation then a reinstatement notice. They have been around for a really long time- I have them and like them- but my friend has Embrace and likes them too |

i got 'trupanion' pet insurance. after my sister's dog had an overnight stay at the vet costing over 2000 i decided it was necessity. they have a 0 deductible per incident choice, so you pay the vet fee (maybe 30 bucks) and then they reimburse you for 90% of the rest. sound good to me |
I love the reimbursement part, it's mah fav. :P |
I've really been considering pet insurance. Jackson will be 2yrs old in October and has only had one 'emergency' when he had Lymes, but came up limping, etc, so we spent all this money on x-rays, etc, it ended up being a $400 vet visit, and it definitely would have been nice to been reimbursed most, or all of it. I don't care about routine care (shots, etc) because I know that's coming and can plan for it and stuff. I basically want insurance in case of an emergency that is going to cost me $400+++ and me being unprepared for it. Do you think Pet Plan is good for me? I'd also like to spend under $30 a month. I got a little flyer from the ASPCA insurance and it seemed pretty good. The lowest plan was like $19.95/month or something. |
