Mites cause dry skin....what is the best shampoo? Vet told me that Bella got mites from the breeder. Now she has a case of really bad dry skin. Any suggestions for a really good shampoo to bath her in? |
I like Minksheen shampoo, it has conditioners and mink oil in it, with cintronella to help keep fleas away. I also would use a leave in conditioner. Here is the link for Minksheen: MinkSheen Pet Shampoo, 16 oz But if she has mites maybe the vet would recommend a medicated shampoo for you so you might want to ask first. Good Luck to you and poor itchy Bella! |

My Bailey has been itching so much but I couldn't find fleas so I dismissed it. Tonight I decided something is not right and inspected her very closely with a magnifier. I see little black spots on her skin under her fur. Could this be mites? I hate that its Saturday night and I have to wait until Monday to get her to a vet. Any suggestions of what I can do until Monday to relieve her of her horrible itching? I already bathe her in Minksheen regularly (once a week). |
I picked up this tube of stuff called Toad Jelly - Reyna Loves It It is a natural antiseptic cream was for cats, dogs and horse.. it is very cooling to the skin and is botanical |
The Toad Jelly is a Cream Wash .. I also picked up the stick toad jelly to put on an area if she is scratching too much is has rosemary and mint in it. |
Thank you! Can I find the Toad Jelly in your average pet store? Maybe one that caters to horses? I want to get it tomorrow. Thank you so much. I hope it works. |

Your puppy could have what's commonly called Walking Dandruff. It's caused by a skin mite which, by the way, can bite people also. If this is the case the puppy needs to either be dipped or given an oral or injectable course of treatment usually with an ivermectin product. |
Itchy skin - sharing a solution Maya was itchy as well for a couple of months or more, and the vet checked a piece of her skin under a microscope and didnt find any mites. Today I was playing with her hair and noticed she had a "ball" of hair near her neck, so I went and cut it. Then I started checking her entire body and found 15 of those hair knots! I am starting to think that this is why she is itchy! maybe those knots are pulling her skin and it bother her!? I have to say that I comb her hair regularly with a hair brush and it runs smoothly on her exterior hair. but I never thought of going deeper with a comb and that is exactly what I did today. Surprisingly, she was so cooperative like she wanted me to help her with that. Reflecting back, I realize that in the past few weeks she was looking at the comb - now I know why. Just wanted to share with all those who dont know the reason why their baby is itching so much. Maybe they have knots of hair that bother them? |

Be sure to use products formulated for dogs, as things like eucalyptus and tea tree oil can be toxic if too strong. |
