What food do you guys recommend feeding your yorkie? Right now I am feeding my Lexie Royal Canine 33 for puppies. I was thinking about feeding her Natural Balance because they recommended that for my bigger dog since she has allergies, and they basically said it was a very good food for any dog. What other dog foods would you guys recommend? |
here's a list that may help: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...e-samples.html I feed Acana and my pups love it! |
We feed the RC 33, but the corn made Hammer itch, CONSTANTLY. We finally settled on Wellness (for puppy) and i love it! |

Best food I researched a lot of "natural" dog foods, and I found that the Wellness brand is best. It doesn't have corn, and has quality ingredients. And most importantly my Yorkie likes it. There are a few other good brands out there, but my Dixie didn't like them. |
I feed my Westie Blue Buffalo Wilderness because it has only 'good grains' in it and no chicken. I feed Lucy NB Vegetarian in the am (Ringo loves it too) and Wellness Limited Ingredient in the pm. I have to smash up the Wellness though; it's too big. She's gotten to where I think she actually prefers the vegetarian food. I was trying not to limit her protein TOO much because she's not quite one year old. Still trying to find that happy balance. Both get a little bit of the 99% Wellness canned on their dinner. Ringo gets Beef and Lucy gets Chicken. |
I love Acana! Acana and Orijen, both by Champion Foods, are my favorite kibbles personally. But there's lots of great foods out there... Nature's Variety, Fromm, Go!/Now!, etc. |
same thing for my yorkies. I used to Feed Royal Canin 33 and switched to Wellness. I would recommend Wellness dog food. Here is the to the website Wellness Dog Wellness Quote:

Thanks I was also looking at Acana and Orijen and reading the reviews online. They both had good reviews and ratings. Are they available at Petco? |
I feed Cody Wellness Super 5 for Puppies. |
We feed her Wellness treats, but it was hard for us to choose a food. There was a lot of good foods at Petco, and we weren't even sure what to feed her. We also saw Blue Buffalo and that also seemed like a good food too. The reason we are feeding Royal Canine right now is because that is what the breeder fed her, and we didn't want to switch foods. |

However, if you go to a certain foods website, they always have some kind of a store locater. You can type in your zip code and see the closest places that carry the food! You'll be surprised sometimes at the places you find them. |
I feed mine Avoderm Puppy. The breeder was feeding them Eukanuba. I have a Yorkie/Silkie Mix and a Papillon. They love the Baked Avoderm. When I got my two Yorkie Puppies I had already looked at the protein content and decided to transition them to it. They seem to really like it. I was not overly worried because if they did not like it them I could have mixed it in with the adult and fed it to my other two. ;) But they do seem to like it. Now I am just watching to make sure that they eat enough and are gaining weight. |
I did a lot of research and of the great products, I chose from what I could find in my area. I also took the advice of posters here. I rotate food, b/c Gracie gets picky and sometimey. She eats Wellness, Innova, and Lotus. There are some foods that are advertised as healthy and you think they are good, but they don't deserve good ratings. Some sites you should check out yourself are Dog Food Reviews | Dog Food Ratings Dog Food Analysis - Reviews of kibble Also remember that it's only good if your doggy will eat it!:aimeeyork |
Thanks for the list of dog foods. I just e-mailed Champion Pet Foods for a free sample of Acana |
