From PUPPY food to ADULT food - What age??? When am I supposed to transition Betty Boop to Adult food? She turned one year old June 22nd. The vet recommended changing her food a couple of weeks ago because of her having very mucousy poops, thinking this might be the cause. She was already on Blue Buffalo (puppy) and had gone through 2 bags. I recently thought I would try the Adult version before changing brands. Now she is itching, almost uncontrollably. Can't see any fleas so it must be allergies to the food. Would a transition to the adult food cause the itching? Thanks! |
I recently went through the same thing with Jada, but it was just a change to a new food. I changed her over slowly and she was fine for the first 3 weeks. Then yeast infection in both ears, then uncontrollable scratching. I had to take her back last wed for a steroid shot. It was so bad that she scratched about 30-40% of the hair off her head. I had to put a cone on her to keep her from digging at her skin. It has been a week today and she is finally not scratching. The vet also gave us a stronger antihistamine as Benadryl wasn't fazing it. I would watch her and make sure she isn't damaging her skin and coat. I feel for you and for Betty Boop and I hope she feels better soon. |

Last year, the vet gave me something for itching when she was a puppy, but I can't find it now! I just had it yesterday and can't find it today!! He said it wouldn't cause the drowsiness that Benadryl causes. How much Benadryl is safe for a 5 pound dog tonight???? I hope your baby continues to do well. It hurts so much to see them so miserable. Boop's hair is doing OK for now, but her skin is a little red. |

Jada is 6lbs9oz. and our vet said 1/2 t. of benadryl but it didn't help her at all. He gave her hydroxyzine last week. I haven't had to give it to her but about 4 times, and none since Sunday. |

Glad to hear Jada is doing better. Sounds like she is on her way to a full recovery.:) |
