Surgery coming- what can u advice me on... Good day everyone! I'm a first time yorkie owner and have some curiosity n some issues... My 9 month-old Kiko (aka Sugar) boy will be neutered in 1 week, and I'm just thinking, what other procedures owners usually do to their yorkies, thinking that is an opportunity to do whatever he is to have done in 1 sleep. I have limited $ so he is getting neutered @ the Animal Humane Society ($65) But I'm worried... anyone had an experience there? Happy with the outcome? Or how much you paid at other place. Dog slaying at other place is $200 for me. I'm considering getting his dew claws removed at that time. Is tail docking By vet too late at his 9 months? Anyone implements the barf diet or feeds something other than dry food to their furbaby? Th :) Sorry if I got carried away with the questions :) just don |
I dont see anything wrong with going thru the humaine society. There are certain steps that they dont do however like preop bloodwork to make sure the dog can handle the anesthesia. My vet didnt do that either. But Im all for spaying and neutering so I think anyway an owner can afford to get it done is good. He wont be able to have a bath for 10 days also you want to keep him calm and not jumping. You might ask if they will give you pain meds incase you need them. |
Have you had his teeth checked to see if he's retained any baby teeth ? That's something that is usually done at the time of spay/neuter. Also 9 mo is too old for removing his tail as it would be major surgery and Very Painful. Oh , Welcome to YT :) |
9 months for tail docking is too old, I understand it is usually done in the first few days after birth but im not 100% on that one so I will let someone more experienced answer :) Good luck for the surgery. |
The humane society is ok, but they may not do everything that the place charging more does. Then it would be a question of does the pup need to be neutered bad enough to let them cut corners. The right anesthesia is expensive and so is blood work. |
I think it is wonderful that you are having your pet neutered and you found a low cost option to help you! I can't help you with dewclaws or tails - but, lots of yorkies still have their tails. When we had Teddy neutered, he was 7 mos old and he had 6 baby teeth that came out at the same time. It is best to just take them out right then and there so they don't interfere with the adult teeth. As for diet, you will find so many of us do so many different things. Some people do feed raw. I feed home cooked foods to my dogs. Come join us in the health and diet forum, where you can find out all you want about diet! |
Welcome to YT! :p |
so far i see some great advice @chachi- will make a note of that- the bathing issue was forgotten n my questions for vet list. Thanks! @lillymae- mm... baby tooth... just n case will have him checked. Great advice! @Rachael x - will continue loving tail on then :) @Ellie may - that's true and that's what concerns me... thinking about the quality of opting for the less expensive option. I'll try to reach a balance between getting his care safelywhile also considering my sources. @107barney- the tail isn't really an issue for me. Maybe more of a curiosity for seeing tail docking as a very popular trend. But love his tail! Thanks of sharing with me some of your wisdom :) @ dzbabykel - thanks! love your quote about boys lol I see some very nice advices and thanks everybody! I'm open to anybody that wants to share anything with me. keep the messages coming & have a great week! |
