What do you do when they are so picky they barely eat? My baby Iggy that I adopted this week is the pickiest dog I've ever delt with. He is so skinny and not because his previous owner didn't feed him. The only thing I have been able to get him to eat without any trouble were french fries (hardly any good for either of us). I was given half a bag of the dog food he was being fed (Beniful, which he hates) and I've been mixing it in with the solid gold that my other dog loves. He barely touches it. Tonight I tried cooking for him and he ate a little bit of it but only if I was feeding it to him out of my hand. What is going on here? |
What do you know about his previous eating habits? If he ate good for them, it may be that he is in a new home. How old is he? Rehoming can sometimes be stressful on them and that may affect their appetite. I have a picky girl and tried several brands before I found a brand she would eat. If she decides she doesn't want it I don't know what I will do. :) |
I am with you on this one,, I rescued a dog a few weeks ago who also ate beniful, im not sure uf he liked it but i wont feed it to him. I have spent a ton on dog food about 400.00 in the last few weeks I am in search of a food both my yorkies will eat, so far not so great. I did however send emails to all the dog food companies that are in the sticky section under super prem food under health for samples, my local cutters mill has none, anyway we have gotten about 8 bags so far none he liked but atleast it has cut down my quest and saved me some money. i did find that he likes stella and chewy,, thats what my other dog eats its a deh raw, that you can add water or not, they both love the ziwi peat also raw but its an air dryed one,I dont like the idea of a raw raw it kinda grosses me out but the dehydated is fine for me, but im still in search for a dry they both like. |

Have you tried adding anything to her kibble? Lucy loves cooked carrots or a tiny bit of cottage cheese. She also loves a little bit of canned chicken on her kibble of an evening - she will eat ALL of that. |
If your Yorkie has been found to be healthy, good teeth etc..then pick a quality food and stick to it. Put the food down and walk away...pay no attention and do not fret over the dogs eating habits. I have never had a Yorkie starve themselves to death.. You might try a homecooked diet as I do, along with kibble. |
