giving the right portions?? Last vet check allie was 7.8 lbs. I've been feeding her natures variety chicken raw. I was mixing in kibble with 1 medallion in am and pm. When I went to purchase more I was talking with the owner of the store and was asking her about her tear stains, & if they sold anything that would help. She mentioned the kibble has yeast and if I only give her the raw it might help her eyes. She had told me 2 med. a day and that was a complete meal, after going on the website for NV it said 3.8 ounces per day. So I figured 2 in am and 2 in pm. She eats all of it and continues to lick the plate. it just doesn't look like a lot of food. Am I giving her enough, too much, should I purchase NV kibble to mix with it?? I do not want her to get heavy, just normal. She looks good at the weight she is now. Thanks for any feedback! |
I can never seem to feed my dogs the same amount all the time. I feed what I think is enough, then depending on how many treats, how much training, the weather and even the alignment of the moon and stars (just kidding), I end up eyeballing them and adjust the amount depending on how they look. It's easier with my other short coated dogs than with Lizzy, but I still adjust what she gets regularly. When I was feeding NV raw, I was giving my 12lb dog 3 medallions 2x/day and it didn't look like enough either, but she gained weight. I've also been told that you shouldn't feed kibble and raw food at the same time, or meal, because of the way the two are digested or else its the rate that they are digested. Something like that, but I don't know if that's true or not. |
Hi I feed raw also, Primal, and I give my 7 lb yorkie 3.5 medallions a day and she is pretty trim. The vet has told me that most dogs will gulp down the raw and then look up for more but it is like a kid with candy. Kids won't stop eating candy until they throw up and dogs wanna eat raw til then too!! I generally watch my dogs over the week, if they look like they are gaining a little weight I pull back on the amount of food and if they are playing more and looking thin then I add more. :) |
