Any dry food with large pieces/kibble? Hey all, I have an issue with my girl's eating habits! For whatever reason, she tends to gulp down her food instead of chewing it and taking her time like she's supposed to! I read somewhere that eating food very quickly and not chewing it can cause digestion problems. Right now I feed her Canidae which is very easy for her to swallow w/o chewing. I'm wondering if there is any GOOD brand out there that has larger pieces of kibble (which would force her to chew instead of swallowing). I am thinking of switching to Lotus (http://www.lotuspetfoods.com/dogchic...dogchicken.jpg) but I would like to see if there are any other options! I'm interested in Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul but i am not sure how big the kibble is. Any help would be appreciated! |
Orijen and Acana (both made by Champion Pet Foods) have larger sized kibble than many other good brands. |

Also, Wellness CORE and regular Wellness tend to have larger kibbles too. I had the same problem w/ Jackson basically swallowing little kibble, LOL. |
I second Acana and Orijen. Acana grain-free ones are bigger pieces. When Sandy was younger, I had to cut the kibbles to smaller pieces. Nowadays, I just let him chew his kibbles... he seems to enjoy that a lot. :) |
agree with the other post...Acana has larger pieces and its a great kibble |
Wolfie has recently decided to just swallow his puppy food... so I will keep these in mind for the future. |

I am interested in Acana although there doesn't seem to be a place nearby that sells it... hmm. |
Evo, Innova, California Natural make a Large Bite Kibble. Acana Grasslands is wide kibble. Maybeiloveyou, we have good shipping rates to SC and the little .88lb bags. |
Orijen has larger size kibbles. I have the reverse issue with Armani and when I feed Orijen I have to cut the kibble into smaller pieces. Good luck! |
I feed NOW! which the adult dog food has larger kibbles, the Yorkie version has small kibbles, my local retailer only carries the general brand, and told me it has essentially the same nutrients in it. I am swithcing Harley to that when he is off puppy food. I'm really happy with it. |
So glad I saw this thread, my Maddie is swallowing her kibble whole as well. She is on Natural Balance duck and potato small bites. Yesterday I purchased a bag of the sweet potato and bison in the regular size kibble. She loved it and crunched away on it. I guess I never paid enough attention before to realize she wasn't chewing her kibble. She isn't much of a chewer AT ALL. I have the CET chews, bully sticks, hymalyan (sp??) chews, toys, you name it and I have tried it. She doesn't chew on anything. If I give her something treatwise to chew on, she just hides it. I am hoping chewing on the kibble will help keep her teeth clean as she did have to have a dental a couple of months ago at age 2 1/2. |
My pups swallow Acana whole. It is a bigger size food. Bigger than ones that say "small breed". I have given up trying to find a smaller food they will eat. -LOL They are about 5 and 6.5 lbs |
