One More Dog Food Question I don't want to jinx myself by saying this, but it seems like I finally found a dry food Mr. Picky will actually eat! My question is if I want to try different "flavors" within the same brand (Orijin) do I still need to transition slowly as if changing from one brand to another, or can I just try it "cold turkey"? I also include some Natural Balance roll (lamb) with his food in the morning and evening. His snacks have been curtailed severely! |
I've always done "cold turkey" switches! I feed Orijen and Acana, made by the same company and he does fine with it. He also does not have a real sensitive stomach. |
I also have always switched cold turkey with high end foods. Never had a problem. I think the lower end foods are more of a problem with their questionable ingredients. |
If I try to switch to a new food by mixing with the old Ziva just picks out the new one and leaves the unwanted behind- along with a mess! Right now she is eating solid gold in the morning and taste of the wild in the evening. |
I've found it's a waste of time to do the slow switch...They're gonna pick out the new and exciting food, and leave the old stuff..Also, I agree that when you switch high end food, there isn't much of an issue w/the switch...I think if you leave the "junk" food out of the equation, it usually goes pretty smoothly... |
Thanks Y'all! I've been feeding Neo and Connor the Regional Red and the puppy food(respectively) and they've been eating it very well. Nice to know since the RR is seasonally produced, I can sub it for some of the other flavors. Unfortunately, I can only get the Orijin and not the Acana food in my area, and I don't order food online. |

If I'm not mistaken, someone here on YT mentioned something about RR being produced only seasonally. I think it was on a previous thread I started asking about (RR) and another YTer said that it is not available year round. I hope that isn't the case!:( |
I just went back and checked the old thread and post #6 made the statement. Looks like a pretty reliable source! |
there are so many things we should consider to raise a dog. anyway i like dogs. |
