itchy My yorkie is all of a sudden obsessed with scratching he is a very active dog and spends a lot of time outside running, swimming in the pool, rolling around on the grass and chasing lizards. I have him on frontline and also give him baths regularly I even give him brewer's yeast & garlic pills which I was told is also good for keeping fleas off. I don't see any fleas on him and believe me I have searched I don't know what to do for him I feel so bad watching him scratch so much..... any suggestions? |
My male started doing this also. Vet told me he thought it was a food allergy because I had switched foods recently. Levi ended up being allergic to TOTW bison. He got so flaky and stinky I new something was wrong. As soon as I put him back on Wellness the itching stopped. |
I have the same issues with Tucker and his are food related. I have him on a limited ingredient diet that only consist of one protien and one good carb and it has help termendously. Is the food you feeding him contain corn or chicken? They seem to be the biggest trigger in food allergy dogs. It is possible that he could have allgeries to the enviroment but it is really hard to tell untill to start taking things away for awhile. If its food related it could take up to a month of a new food change to see results. I also use ark naturals royal coat express fish oil, its help with skin, coat, ears, wound healing etc. It has done wonders for Tucker and his itchy/dry skin. |
I got real lucky figuring it out with Levi...because it literally happened in like a week and then disappeared within a week of removing the food. Thank god, he was so miserable. |
His allergies sound environmental to me. Zeus loves to spend time outdoors too and is also pretty itchy. My vet just put him on Hydroxyzine. I hope this works. We have been giving it to him for 5 days now waiting to see an improvement. I would talk to your vet. |

Hi! My Kenzie has been itchy since she's on Science Diet when we got her, switched her to Royal Canin and still itchy. Last week the vet gave her a dexametasone shot, the itching isn't as frequent as it was before, hope it stops soon :( |
Thank you everyone I never realized so many things could be causing this I just assumed fleas..... But now that I think of it I believe he was itchy last year around the same time. |
