Tattoo or Microchip I am getting 2 puppies in a couple of weeks and want to get them marked with a permanent form of identification to safe guard against thieft or natural disaster. I would like to know what people have been doing and if you could do it again would you still do that or something else. Thank you for helping me figure out the best choice. |
I know some breeders will tattoo their dogs before they sell them. My parent's dachshund, Lucy has the inside of her ear tattooed, I know sometimes they will do it in the inner thigh as well. None of my dogs are chipped or tattooed, which Im fine with, however, I do think it is a great idea. Good Luck |
Tattoo's can fade overtime, change shape as dog grows and become hard to read, and can even be removed. Micro chipping is the latest and more evolved way of doing a permanent mark, you can register your chip number on-line to a national data base and it can never be removed as it becomes a part of the skin and can not even be felt after a while if properly inserted. Do a little research on the type of chip that will be ideal for your situation... for an example, if you plan to travel overseas you may need an "euro filled" chip, if you just stay in the US the older model will be fine, there is also the ISO chip that is the latest technology but useless here in US because most shelters do not have the scanner that will detect it ! congrats on the new family members. |
I would go with microchip. Mine are microchipped and I am going to start to do all my pups from now on. I think it is important. |
Microchip! :) Tats fade over time and I wouldn't like my dog being tattooed for some reason. I like that you can't see the microchip. Jackson is microchipped and all my dogs from now on will be. :) Just an added layer of security! |
Microchip! Good luck! |
Pistol goes to get chipped on the seventeenth of this month. We had a greyhound that was tatooed and by the time he was eight it was so faded you could barely read it. |
I would def. go with the microchip for identification purposes. My girls were microchipped and also received a spay-tatoo but this is not for any type of identification. |
Microchiping is the way to go !!!! XOXO |
I, too agree to microchip....my little guy is! |
Definitely microchip! Beamer has a "Home Again" microchip, and you can register your dogs on their website and upload a photo. If ever the babe goes missing they will send an alert out to members in the area, and also help with posters. Lil Bit's microchip was done with Avid. (depends on which your vet uses), but I was able to register her microchip number on the Home Again site.:aimeeyork Pet Microchip for Dogs and Cats | HomeAgain Pet ID & Recovery Service |
I vote microchip too! My little guy is microchipped with resQ and I am pleased with this. Registered the chip online and came with a tag that we put on his collar with his other ID/rabies/etc tags. |
Remy is microchipped with ResQ / PetLink He did, however, meet a little female in the islands during our vaca who was tatooed...... Remy was quite taken with her, maybe there is some merit to the tatoo ;) |
Hammer is microchipped. However, I havent gotten around to mailing out this form, so for right now, its pointless! |
micro chip in my opinion :) x |
