How do I open his mouth He just will not take his worm tablet, spits it out, I've even tried crushing it in a favourite treat but no he wont eat it, hide it in cheese, no, wrap it in meat, no. George is now overdue for his tablet and the vet makes it look easy but he wont open his mouth, his little head goes back, paws up no no mummy, I'm sure there is a way, or a place to apply pressure and their mouth opens, anyone know. ????:confused: |
I'm surprised the crushing trick did not work. Did you crush it into fine powder? Try mixing it in some wet food or cottage cheese. I've also been told about a thing called a pill popper. but you would have to open his mouth. Use one hand and go over the muzzle and lift up the jowls, use your thumb and middle finger and push in behind the canines in that hollow area, and the mouth will open a bit, and use your other hand to prop open more. Then if you can, have a helper use the pill popper. Good luck. But I've had more luck with the crushing method. |
I will try it in cottage cheese, but I know it (the tablet) tastes foul because I accidently licked my finger last time I crushed one, (least I wont have worms) hate forcing him it makes me feel like a bully to my baby |
My Maddie LOVES Velveeta cheese. I take her pill and cut it in half. I make little balls of Velveeta with 2 of them having half a pill in the middle. The balls are just big enough to cover the pill completely so she can't smell it and are all the same size. I give her two plain ones making her do a trick for each one (sit, circle, roll over, etc) then give her the 2 with pills and then finish with a plain one. She gobbles them so fast she doesn't even realize there are pills in two of them. Now, if the pill isn't completely covered and she can smell it, she eats the cheese off it and spits out the pill. |

I buy fat free cream cheese coat the pill and they lick it right down. Works like a charm:) |
I tried everything with hannah too, she would just spit it out. I bought these things called pill pockets made my greenies I think. This works for me and she loves them! |
Maybe peanut butter? Nala doesn't like pills and I have to put it in PB and put it far back in her mouth. Good luck:thumbup: |

Should I redose him after vomiting Tried cottage cheese and he turned his nose up, he doesn't like normal cheese either, and decided to try peanut butter had a little tatse but not keen on that either, so got a peice of my steak (cooked) and popped 1/4 of a pill in and it just got gobbled up so tried the other peice and gone in a blink , but 3 hours later it was sicked up on my rug. Would it have worked or should I redose him. |
Yeah i would advise against steak. It's too greasy, even the leaner cuts. I would wait until the next dosing time and try again. Did you try the crushing method in some canned food yet? Or maybe try the steak method but with chicken instead. |
