Yorkies eyes My Yorkie,Max,seems to always have dried up crust on the corner of his eyes,I'm always wiping it away.Sometimes it's hard to get off, and,I need a warm rag to get it off.The vet gave me drops for his eyes, but,it's almost impossible to get in his eyes,he squirms like a fish out of water! Is this a normal yorkie problem, just curious.Thanx! |
I think this is probably normal. I work on Piccolo's eyes everyday. I had her eyes tested at the vet, to make sure she did not have dry eyes, or whatever it is called, and she did not so I just work extra hard to make sure this stays clean. |
both my yorkies have to have their eyes cleaned regularly...I usually do the warm wash cloth thingy every 2 or 3 days...I've got a little maltese, boarding here this weekend, and her eyes are just as runny/crusty...In fact, I just got through cleaning her eyes...I thought about using those products, etc. for eyes, but after looking at the ingredients, decided old fashioned warm water was the best... |
I have the same problem with Jada and Bogie. Sometimes it has to do with food allergies and seasonal allergies. I recently switched their food to Life's Abundance and since changing they have hardly any eye boogers. I have noticed also that if their hair gets in their eyes it causes more eye goop. |
I was told that too much protein in the diet can cause excessive eye goop. As alot of food made specifically for small dogs seems to be high in protein, it would make sense that this could be the culprit. |
All the dogs I've ever owned needed to have their eyes cleaned. Large and small breeds. I think it's like us humans, when we wake up in the morning. It's part of my morning ritual, I take a soft disposable cloth and clean their eyes after breakfast. Doing this once a day prevents it from accumulating. :aimeeyork |
My Morkie gets her eyes washed daily with a baby toothbrush-- works like a charm! |
I wipe Sasha's eye crusties out daily right before bedtime. Doing it daily keeps it from building up and makes it easier to clean and get off. Sometimes when I clean them, there isn't much if any there, but I still wipe around the area anyways. |
