Taste of the Wild dog food My two yorkies are very picky eaters. I've tried different kinds of dog foods. Today I bought Taste of the Wild. Does anyone else give that to theirs? My two yorkies are 7 months and 2 1/2 yrs. old. They seem to like it but the 7 month old can't chew it. They are both 4 lbs. It seems like the food is too big compared to what they've been eating. Do any of yours have trouble chewing it because of the size? |
My 10 1/2 week old Yorkie eats Taste of the Wild kibble and wet food with no problem--he is two pounds. At any rate, he really likes it. |
Indy has been enjoying it for about a week now. She is 5.6 pounds and almost 8 months. |
Do you have to smash the kibbles into smaller pieces for your babies? |
Knox likes it, but it may be too rich for a puppy. I alternate with Blue Buffalo puppy food. |
Obi is 8 weeks and LOVES it! He takes one kibble at a time and breaks it down. Fergie is 16 weeks and loves it as well. No problems here. |
Yep, I serve the Roasted Venison and Bison. My dogs LOVE it! I have a teeny dog too and he has no troubles eating the discs. Perhaps your little one just needs to get used to it. I'm sure he's fine. But you could always crush them a bit for him if you wanted to. This food does wonders for my dogs coats, less eye goop and less poop! :D I think you'll be very happy with it. |
My Yorkies do seem to like it more than the other foods I have tried. I think I will try to alternate it with the Blue Buffalo puppy food for my younger one as was suggested. I think I will also try crushing it up a bit. Thank you for all your replies. :) |
I got the idea of ratating it from a Blue Buffalo rep. Blue Buffalo makes a grain free variety that lots of people here feed which is very similar to Taste of the Wild called Blue Buffalo Wilderness. He said it wasn't the best thing to feed a puppy because it might be too high in protein, causing him to grow too fast. He said he would stick with Blue Buffalo puppy until Knox was one year old. He also said the Wilderness food was meant for highly active dogs, and he wouldn't feed it to a dog that didn't get a lot of exercise either. Knox is very active but not quite 8 months old. Knox likes whatever he hasn't had in a while and eventually gets tired of everything. I am going to buy 5lbs bags and switch it up pretty often. He only eats about a half a cup a day. Plus I give him healthy treats. A 5lb bags lasts a while for a 4lb dog. |
Zhoie's mouth is so little. I use a small pair of wire cutters and just snapped the pieces into in the middle. I too mix with a little wet food. She can eat great that way. |

Both of mine eat the fish one. Myah is only 3.5lbs and eats it just fine. She take one piece and brings it to the living room and breaks it up and eats it...then runs back and gets another piece. I have now put some in the living room so she wasn't running back and forth. The eat both the dry and the wet. |
My furbutts are on Taste of the wild and love it.. we bought two bags of raw kibble and it was not cheap.. none would eat it .. and I have 6 yorkies.. So went and got taste of the wild again.. all eating good yet again.. I have babies 11 weeks old and when I let them out in the kitchen I have to take the grown up food away.. they also like it and eat it with no problem.. yup it was out and they ran right for it.. so I scooped it right up... |
Taste of the wild I have been using taste of the wild for my older ones for a long time. I have sent comments in to the company asking them if they would consider making it in smaller kibble size for toy breeds. They said they would take it into consideration. Maybe if everyone that uses it would contact them with the same request they may come out with a smaller kibble for our little mouthed ones. When they were smaller and use to the small bites and saw how large this was I used a plastic bag, and a hammer and crushed it. Not all the pieces were crumbs some were some were not so they still had to chew until I saw that they could eat the larger pieces. However, I noticed that they wanted the flavor of this food and they found a way to eat it. |
