Stupid Question- Rabies Shot I have a question, probably a stupid one, about Rabies Shots. Are there different kinds, or are they all the same? Chloe needs her Rabies shot, I don't like to give her any shots, so this is stressing me out A LOT. Anyway, I pay 100 dollars just to walk into the vet and we have been there a lot recently. The humane society is having a clinic this weekend and I could get the shot for only 10 dollars (plus likely I would give them a donation but still it would be a lot cheaper) If there is any difference, I dont want to do it though. so... |
There are differences in brands, but the Humane Society would be using an okay one. They will likely have meds on hand if something goes wrong. If it's a clinic and not an actual vet's office, they may not have everything that they need to be safe (i.e. crash cart...sorry). If there is an ER vet very close or it's done at a vet facility, I don't see a major problem with it. Also would depend on last exam and if they will be doing one and if she is liver compromised. Also, these clinics, well, they fill a whole bunch of vaccines at a time and then the syringes sit out (not refrigerated). Not sure on the lifespan of the vaccine after that happens. Just really depends... I'd still much prefer my regular vet do it (and we have to with Ellie's issues), but $100 is a lotta money! |
I got Jackson's Rabies at a "Spay Now!" clinic near me. I love our regular vet but it's just sooo expensive. I knew, like you, it would probably end up being an $80++ visit. So, since he just needed his rabies updated, I took him to this low cost clinic where he got also got neutered and got rabies shot last year. I had told them he had a reaction to lepto so they are really friendly there and always give him Benadryl injection beforehand. It was about $10 for the vaccine and they also did a regular exam on him for $20. So I was very happy, and so was Jackson, with his $30 vet visit. :) |
