Meals only 1X a day? When we first brought Sprinkle home, she was "going" inside quite often. We called the yorkie-specific rescue that we got her from, and they suggested giving her an entire days worth of food at dinner time in order to regulate her bowls a little better. Obviously, she this means she only eats one time a day. We do give her treats for praise and training, and we usually use pieces of her kibble as treats. Is this ok? She seems ok, but my wife and I just wanted to see what the general thought about this is. Thanks! :) |

Personally I do not like the idea of feeding once per day. Especially with the small ones you have to worry about things like them regulating their blood sugar or stressing their liver with too big a meal. I also dont agree with those who recommend restricting water in order to prevent accidents. |

My "big" boys (7 and 8 pounds) eat their daily allowance in 3 small meals a day. We keep a pretty tight schedule with meal times and walks/exercise, and this greatly helps regulate pooping time. |
Thank for all of the responses... we will give 2X a try and see how she does! :) |
Now that mine are older I do twice a day 12 hrs apart and always have fresh water available as my maltese will only drink a fresh bowl of water as she is a princess. Mid day we give them a little bit of their kibble and for treats we use their kibble as well due to health issues we have cut all treats out but they get just as excited for a piece of kibble lollll |
We have always fed our three twice a day! They know exactly, almost to the minute when it's meal time! They also get a morning & evening snack & they know the timing of their treats as well! |

For quite some time, Sasha used to only eat once a day and it would be in the evening. I didn't like the fact that she would go all day without eating a decent meal (she'd get small treats throughout the day) but once I found a food that she'd actually eat all at one time and get excited for it, I split her feedings into two seperate ones, so now she eats in the morning and the evening. |
