Up at 3 a.m. !!! Bella woke me up last night making a strange noise. It is very hard to explain what the sound was like. Be patient with me please.:) She was breathing in and it sound really strange. Like a suction or grasp. Almost like they do before they throw up. She was not sick at her stomach. I jumped up holding her and she acted normal. I got her to drink a sip of water. She kept doing it. It did not seem to bother her but it scared me to death. She had the hiccups some too. She did it for about 3 minutes then went right to sleep. She did not act like she was in any kind of stress trying to breathe or anything. She looked at me like I was crazy getting her up at that time of night. I'm sure this sounds crazy but I'm not sure how to explain it any better. She is very normal this morning and was last night before bed. She has done this one other time for a shorter time frame and stopped. Again was very active during it and she seem not to even notice it was happening. |
perhaps it was just a reverse sneezing episode? mine sometimes wakes up doing this or does it during the day at various times. its nothing to worry about and you can stop it by putting your finger over their nose and making them breath thru their mouth. giving them a treat sometimes works too. you can do a search on you tube for reverse sneeze to compare the sound to what you heard. |
sounds like reverse sneeze see video below does it sound like that? My maltese wakes up at night sometimes and does this. Now if it is coughing in the middle of the night that is different as that is heart related but I bet it is just reverse sneeze. I would not give water during episode. I just hold her and try to calm her down as she gets more stressed when i cover her nose and open mouth which works perfect for my two yorks that do it occasionally. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...d-trachea.html |
Thats what it was! Reverse sneeze. The videos were great to compare the different sounds. Thanks so much for responding so quickly. It puts me at ease to know she is ok.:D |
