average weight for 12 wk yorkie? My vet weighed Zoe Saturday and at 12 weeks she is 3.4 lbs. Isn't that a heavy weight for a puppy? Vet says no, but my daughter's yorkie is 11 months old and is 3.5 lbs. |

I would say yes BUT you really have to know your dog's background for several generations (pedigree). Yorkies are really hard to predict because so many people have not bred them to their standard. I don't want you to get upset if you were expecting yours to stay small because some lines grow fast up front and some don't fill out until later. Either way, I'm sure you'll love him no matter how big/small he'll be. |

LOL! Well, my Max was just over 3 pounds at 13 wks, came from excellant lines and he's 11 pounds now. :D |
Hard to say! Crosley was about that size at that age & she's like 17lbs now, but she's a Yorkie-Poo. Wrigley was that weight at 9-10 months old & her adult weight is now almost 7lbs. |
It is hard to say, with yorkies. Some lines grow fast and then stop and others continue to grow. It really depends on the line (why people should know the lines). And this is also why we cannot garantee weight. Just have to wait and see. Mine were about 2.0 -2.8 at 12 weeks. I am hoping mine will continue to grow. |
I don't know what the "average" is; my boy was 6lbs at 12 weeks, hehe. He stayed at 12lbs for a looongg time until a little over a year old and he's now at a healthy and sturdy 16lbs. |
I am not upset if she gets to 7lb. I have young grandkids so I don't want Zoe too tiny. But I was wondering if she was gaining weight too quickly... about a lb a month. I saw the papers on her bloodline going back several sets of grandparents. Only one grandparent was very tiny. |

Weight For 12 week old Puppy Yes, I think yours will be one of the larger yorkies, which are great too. My 12 week old is 1 lb. 14 oz. which is an average for my line. 6 lbs. is the largest for my line. Mine usually run between 3 1/2 to 5 lbs. It is possible that she will just stop growing at some point and not be really big. You do need to know the line and how they mature. I would say she will be around the 6 or 7 lb mark, generally speaking. Any size yorkie is great. Julia |

P.S. A general rule of thumb was to double their weight at 12 weeks of age. But this is no guarantee. You just have to wait and see. All yorkies are usually done adding on any weight at about 2 years (for females) and 1 1/2 years for boys. They may go up and down a tad past these years, but not usually much. |
Pixie was 2.75 at 12 weeks and is now 5.5lbs. I really think it depends on the yorkie. Pixie seemed to gain weight fast in the begining but then slowed down after 7 months. |
