my yorkie had whip worms My little Rosie was diagnosed with whip worm about 3 months ago.It was part of her normal physical. I said to the vet, Her fur looks oily, The vet said it could be a parasite. After a stool check she said Rosie had whip worms. She was put on a medication ( I can not remember what it was called ) Rosie took all of the medication. The Vet said the other dogs should be tested at $25. per dog and if necessary put on meds. My question is, should I pay to have all 5 of them tested or just treat them all. They were all tested a few weeks before and tested neg. Rosie was with a the rescue group, the one I got her from, for two weeks, while I cared for Julie after Rosie attacked her in March. That is the only thing different I can think of, Why she tested positive.Once she was diagnosed I made sure I picked up All of the poop in the yard right away. Thanks Brenda |
i'd treat them all without doing a fecal on them all. some would rather do the fecal and then treat if necessary because they don't want to give meds without cause. so its up to you and what your comfortable with. |
i would treat them all...as much as i love my puppies....they are dogs..they are low to the ground sniff, lick and eat just about anything...which has included poo..so i personally would just treat them all.. |
Whip worms My new baby was diagnosed with giardia, another parasite, and ringworm. Both my older pek and my 17 month old yorkie got everything too. The vet gave me a hard time about giving the meds to my other two dogs because she hadn't diagnosed them with everything. I know my dogs and I know they had gotten it. (Giardia doesn't show up in every stool sample.) I did pick up my yard also, but after researching giardia, I found out that it can stay in the yard for two months, even after the poop has been picked up. I have been pouring bleach-water on every spot after picking up now. I'm not sure if whip worms are the same though. It is so easy for our little babies to transfer these things though. (My pek has little to no contact with my new baby and she's gotten it.) |
If it was just one more pup, I'd probably do a fecal. But with that many, I'd just treat. It's cheaper and even fecals aren't 100% correct all the time (things can be missed or not show up sometimes). Deworming occasionally is fine, esp. in a case like this. |
whip worm Thanks for everyone in put. The girls regular vet said let me test them all and start them on the meds. The Vet that I use for shots and well care (because she is charges 1/4 the price) She is a spay / neuter clinic. Hard to get in . She said Just treat them all. Thats what I will do. Thank s for the help. Brenda |
