6 week old yorkie 'humping'. I am sure this can't be normal. We brought our 6 week old Yorkie home from the breeder and the same day she started humping on her stuffed animals. Yes, a SHE. I thought it was a freak event, but she does it so many times a day. She is now 12 weeks old and she hasn't stopped. I thought they weren't sexually mature till around 6 months or so. Diverting attention doesn't always work. Any advice on how to stop her? |
yes she is young and a female...but it does happen...just take the toy away and say a firm no every single time you catch her doing it...lol...i know of males humping at 6 weeks...but first time i have heard of a female doing it this young...but it does happen.....lol...good luck |
You'd be surprised how young they can start. a little boy in a litter I bred many years ago started trying to hump his litter brother almost as soon as he could stand, he was 3 weeks old when he first started. I must say he turned out to have the most amazing temprement though, very steady and sure of himself. |
I think this can also be linked to her being away from momma so young. Momma didn't get a chance to teach her doggy manners, but fortunately your baby has an awesome human momma to teach her things! If you don't want her doing this behavior, just take the toy away, tell her "no" when she does it and redirect her to a different activity. It will eventually fade away if your consistent. |
It's more than likely a stress reduction method. Give her some other outlet, such as a chew toy to work out her anxiety on. |
Zoe has lots of toys to play with in and out of her pen. But whenever she sees 'Nemo-the stuffed clownfish, or Cookie Monster- she starts doing it again. Never on other toys that I can see. She loves the stuffed ones so much...even when play fighting or napping using them as a pillow...that I hated taking them away. I picked them up for a while to see if that works. I really don't think she's anxious though...rather more self assured than any puppy I've seen. Hardly ever whines and loves to be 'doing her own thing..no matter what that happens to be. If only she'd like to cuddle!! LOL |
I wish I could tell you she'll grow into a cuddle bug. Kaji came home at a year old and he is the biggest cuddle bug I've ever met. He's happy just being on my lap or stretched over my shoulder napping while I read YT. He does love all the usual dog activities like fetch, trick training, and of course our play dates with his yorkie friends! I missed all of the puppy stage but he's perfect so I can overlook that. ;) |
