No Temaril is the only med she is taking. It really knocks her out. She usually sleeps with us because she is a major cuddler, but on this med she'll sleep in her own bed and doesn't sleep with us at all. I don't know if it's because she's too tired to move or what.

I didn't want to stop the meds and start them again, I was just wondering if I should stop them for good, because it makes her so tired and she can't hold her pee as well. talk to vet as sounds like something else is going on as increased urine yes but tired no that is not a symptom and also it causes increased appetite too not a decrease. Are you giving it to her mid meal as steroids should not be given on an empty stomach so if you are doing that then this could be a problem

That most definitely can be a side effect of Temaril (lethargy, tiredness). Because it is excessive, your vet should be involved.

what are you referring to as dd has been on temarilp for 2 years and has not had any grogginess or decrease in appetite. The appetite increased on steroids but the urine increase is a definite sign of temarilp use

Not talking about polyurea/polydipsia. That's very normal for steroids in a lot of cases.

I'm concerned about the inappetence (but maybe pup is too tired to eat).

What I was talking about is lethargy and tiredness all the way down to possible sedation. These, esp. the first two, are side effects of Temaril-P. Ellie doesn't have an issue like this with it either, but some dogs do.

wow never read that about temarilp before. This is the first time. It does have an antihistamine mixed into it which could cause sedation though and maybe she is on too high of a dose too. DD is 7lbs and she is on 1/2 tp every other day

I called the vet this morning with my concerns, and I'm supposed to get a call back from the Dr. but I haven't heard anything yet. The vet told me she would be tired from it, but nothing about not having an appetite. I'm going to call back if I don't hear anything by 4. She only gets 1/4 of a pill, which is hardly anything, but maybe the dose it too big? I'm just going to call again later.

how much does she weigh?

Did vet call back?

The vet finally called and said to start giving her 1/4 of a pill every other day now, and to add low fat cottage cheese to her food or all natural dog gravy to make her food more appealing. I'll have to do the elimination diet in a few days until she starts eating again since this is the second day she's hardly eaten anything. We have nutrical and I asked her if I can add that and she said that was fine too. She is 4 lbs right now, so I don't want her to start losing weight.

:( so sorry - hope she will eat for you tomorrow - poor baby

Has she had bile acid testing done to make sure no liver issues before steroids were given?

Thank you. No, she didn't have any testing done, but If she hasn't eaten more by Monday then I'm going to go request some blood tests be done. I also just read in another thread that Natural Balance was recalled, and I just bought her bag. It was chicken and sweet potato, but we bought venison and sweet potato. Is there another brand we can try for her elimination diet?

I think the venison is ok but you can try california natural venison and sweet potato but proctor and gamble just bought out the company :( they use to be a good company too

If you do blood work do the pre and post bile acids along with full blood panel

How old is she?

She will be 7 months on the 30th. I'll stick with Natural Balance for now, and do those blood tests if she doesn't start eating. She acts normal during the day, and is still pooping well despite not eating much, but at night she gets so tired and looks so pathetic. I think it just catches up to her by night time. Should I mix in her old food with NB so she doesn't get a tummy ache, or just make a clean switch?

mix and transition very slowly so no tummy upset

poor thing and she is young 7 mos so I would have that liver checked for sure with bats to make sure she can tolerate medications like steroids as well as atopica as that will be key if she ends up on the journey my dd has been on for almost 6 years now as she will be 6 on 7/3

As of now she is finally eating! She had a little Blue Buffalo left in her bowl, so we added Natural Balance with VitaGravy. Well she ate NB, but left the Blue Buffalo and gravy alone! She acted so happy and normal after! However, because she didn't eat her old food she had bad diareah yesterday, and today she is constipated. She's still scratching when she doesn't get a pill so I'm not sure how effective they will be, because she can't take them forever.
