Quick question about raw doggie bottom Hi there. My poor babies had some bug this past few days and diarrhea. Felicity had it the worst, and her poops are still a little like pudding (not completely formed yet). I just got done washing her bottom again, and noticed that around the bottom of her vulva is raw looking. It looks like it hurts, and she acts like it's tender. Is there anything I can safely put on there that won't harm her, esp. if she lick it? thanks! |
Vaseline should be safe. If they can't lick the area, I use antibiotic cream.:) |
Have you taken them to the vet to see what is causing the diarrhea? They could have something like coccidia or guardia. |
Yes, we went to the vet, and they are on the mend. They didn't have coccidia or giardia. Doc said it was a "bug/virus"...don't know where it came from. They haven't eaten anything weird, we have been nowhere, no one has come to visit. Started with Phoebe vomitting one day (over and over for about 10 min)....then that's all she did. Maybe 24-48 hrs later, Felicity threw up in her kennel at night and then commenced to have diarrhea for three days.... Sunday night, Cassidy was whining in her crate, and I check on her and she had thrown up...very mucousy. She threw up several times for the next few hours...had diarrhea twice. No one is having diarrhea or vomitting anymore. They are eating and drinking again, thank goodness...no more syringing water down them. There was no accompanying fever with any of them. They are all up to date on their wormings and vaccinations also. And I even checked my yard for mushrooms, standing water, or dead rodents. My dogs are never unsupervised, so I can't imagine that they got into something. I don't even leave them in our fenced yard for 10 seconds without being out there. Anyhoo...they are on the mend.. but Felicity has redness under her peepee and it seems like it's sore. She seems better this evening...this morning she kept sitting down suddenly, which is why I did a closer inspection. I would think they should not lick vaseline or neosporin or desitin, so I have not put anything on it. Any ideas? Maybe it will clear on it's own now that she is not pooping every 20 minutes! thanks! |
I am glad they are on the mend. Did the dogs have any old chews around that they had been chewing on? I know some chews can harbor a lot of bacteria. I keep lavender oil on hand for minor sores and abrasions. It works great. I mix a few drops with coconut oil then apply it. I get the oil from my vet but you can also get it at health food stores. Lavender oil is a natural antibiotic. It is also suppose to work well for keeping fleas off dogs. |
