Nylabones I'm talking about the synthetic ones made of nylon and some are flavored with meat juices. A girlfriend at work said her vet told her that they were bad for a dogs teeth because they can actually break the teeth in some cases. Then I do a google search and find this product alert Product Alerts Maybe I'm late in coming around to this, but I thought I would share. Scrutinize everything you give your baby. |
Good share, thanks. I read something in this forum about Nylabone a few weeks back and have since thrown all of them away. It truly is unbelievable what can harm our dogs. I am certain also that we are the select few who scrutinize what we give our dogs. And, as far as that goes, I love my dog dearly and am a newby scrutinizer  I just never knew. |
Nylabones Thanks for the update. When I purchased my first yorkie the beginning of last year, that is what the vet recommended to me. I have one for my 4 month old in the puppy pen with her right now. I'll do some spring cleaning! Thanks again. |
Wow I'm surprised to read this. We always give Nylabones to Barney and Teddy. Barney has never had a problem with them since puppy hood. Since he is not permitted to have any edible bones like bully sticks etc I will keep giving them but this is upsetting. We've got chicken and liver flavors, BBQ ribs and corn and the blue flexible dinosaurs and bones. These things are all over the house!! Thanks for the info. |
Yes, they can be a choking hazard and they can break teeth. But every chew has downfalls, so all we can do is choose the ones we think are safest. |
Never had a problem with them. That includes the soft flexible one for the little dog, and the Hard as nails one for Carlo. Maxine can chew on it for hours and hardly make a dent. Can't give Carlo the big Flexible ones as he will have them in 10 pieces in 10 minutes. |
1 Attachment(s) I have to add that Barney has excellent teeth and I think chewing these gummy bones has helped. Here is a pic of him with his corn-on-the cob nylabone -- he so loves them!! Attachment 318293 |
Pet shop swore by them so I thought I'd give it a try, anyway 17 months later he still ignores it and it just sits in the bottom of his toy box, now I have a good reason to bin it "Thanks" |
so what is a good toy for teeth cleaning?? |
