A Vet told me today that my 3 w babies should be eating solid, WHAT? Am i crazy or shouldnt they just be drinking milk from mommy. Food? What solid food i could possibly give them if they dont have teeth. Please help |
I have not clue, but it sounds way to early to be feeding them food! |
Sounds like time to find a new vet! They don't start on solid food until about 9 weeks. I think, someone correct me if I'm wrong. But for SURE not at 3! |
No, I think your vet is right. I have heard 4 weeks. I think you can get more accurate answers in the Breeder Section. Good Luck and keep us posted on your babies. |
At 4 weeks, even 3 weeks, I give mine baby food meat..chicken or beef. I let them lick it off my fingers..if they are standing up fairly well, I make a soupy mix of goats milk and baby food meat... Human babies eat before they have teeth ...puree everything..LOL |
I start feeling my puppies finely ground up dry puppy food at 3 1/2 to 4 weeks, as soon as they are able to walk around. They just lick the ground food a little at first and as they get older they eat more and more. Of course momma continues to nurse them but as they eat more food the mom will slowly start drying up. Some moms will quit letting them nurse when their pups are 6 or 7 weeks old but most of my moms will want to nurse their pups until they are 8 weeks or older. When the pups are about 5 weeks old I will add a tiny bit of canned Pedigree puppy food to the ground up dry food. I mix it really well so that the ground food is a little moist but not to wet. I also leave down a small bowl of water once I start putting down the ground up dry food. Those small double sided dishes they sell at Wal-mart are great for the water and ground up food. I use separate dishes for food and water. |
yep i start weaning mine around 3-4 weeks...i take and grind the puppy food very fine..add some warm water and let it sit until its mush and then feed them a little..and after a while they start eating more and more of it..once older i do the hard food, some soft food and warm water just to soften it some and feed that..and then that leads to just the hard food |
