My yorkie won't poop - helpp i'm a new owner, just got my 8 weeks old baby yorkie a week ago. just yesterday in the morning i realized that kiwi (my yorkie) was trying to poop and it couldnt at all, walking all over the pee pad but still couldn't. she also made this crying sound. i was worried since i'm a first time yorkie owner, so i took her to the vet. the vet gave me this medicine to feed her for 3 days which she said should smooth her poop. afterwards i had work so i left it at home. when i came back it pooped normally (still kinda wet) but today it only pooped once in the morning. it was like diaherra poop and it has orangie jello/liquid to it. it was not big, fairly small. then it tried to poop again right after but only these orange colour jello like whatever they are came out. i've read a couple of posts on this forum saying that by feeding it canned pumpkin and veggies (ie. peas and carrots) can help them with their pooping. anymore suggestions? and what should i do :( |
I have heard that pumpkin can be good - but I've heard it's good for diarrhea and then I've heard it's also good for constipation. So, might be worth a try. You might also want to check again with your vet and see what they say. Can I ask you why you call your dog 'it'? |

Canned pumpkin will add fiber to the diet so if she is having problems pooping you can add a tsp of canned packed pumpkin to her food. You need to make sure that it is not the pumpkin pie filling. It needs to be PACKED CANNED PUMPKIN. Good luck and let us know how she is doing. :) |
I would call the vet to see if it's okay that she's still not going correctly to make sure it's not more serious. Canned pumpkin can be very helpful though. |
ummm orange poop? does it have a really foul odor to it (not that regular poop smells like roses) ? How is she acting otherwise? is she eating and drinking? is she lethargic? how much does she weigh? |

Loss of appetite? Lethargy? What did the vet think it is? Was corona mentioned? |

Did your vet run any tests on her? If no, take a poop sample in...as she was just seen, they may allow you to drop it off at the vet's office without her having to be seen again. Jello/liquid poop is not normal for a puppy. Are you feeding her the same food as her breeder or did you change it? What type food is she eating... dry kibble or canned? How often do you feed her? Do you see her drinking water? |

also i want to add that yesterday she ate a cig butt off the floor when my sister was walking her outside. would she be ok??? she hasn't vomit or poop the cig out yet..:( |
I can't really offer advice as I have no experience either with a constipated pup or one eating a cigarette butt. My own thinking would be that as long as she's not acting constipated, such as straining and doesn't have a hard belly that she's probably alright, just going on her own schedule. I would think that if she were going to get sick from the butt that she already would have. As tiny as she is, however, I would be concerned about an obstruction. I would call the vet to get an opinion since he's seen her but would keep a close eye on her at a minimum. |
