Question on bile acid tests I know a lot of you suggest to get bile acid tests done but my question is if a regular blood test is done and the liver test comes back normal would a bile acid test tell differetly if there was something going on with the liver? I had asked my vet about getting one and he doesn't seem to think there is any reason to do it. |
If liver enzymes are normal, a bile acids test can still be high, yes. It is always a good idea to get them done for Yorkies (after 20 weeks). Most owners and vets don't. It is just a precaution. Ellie had very few symptoms and anything wrong and I'm glad we went ahead with it. |
Dee Dee had normal blood work and high bats. One of the vets we go to feels all yorkies and malts should be bat tested. The only reason Dee Dee was is because he wanted her liver tested to put her on long term meds atopica for allergies and it came up high. I have another yorkie dex and a maltese and they have never shown any signs of this disease so neither of them have had bats so do what you feel is comfortable if your dog is acting normal. If your dog acts the slightest bit off after eating then i would say have it checked out. DD has horrible allergies and i think part of it is liver related as the body cannot properly release the toxins in her body so sometimes that comes out through the skin as well |
Morgan has high BATs and normal blood panel |
Lucy's liver enzymes came back fine in a blood test when she was first brought home. A few months later, we had BAT and her numbers were abnormal. |
