When do Yorkies stop growing? I was just curious. Elliott is almost 7 months, and he is about 11 inches tall (to the top of his back) and 13 inches long from nose to tail. He weights around 4 pounds. I kind of like the idea of having a puppy sized dog (as long as he's healthy), and I am amazed by the number of people on here who have 10 or 12 pound Yorkies...that seems so big in comparison to my guy. At what point do Yorkies stop growing and enter into adulthood? Thanks. |
Many books I have read indicate Yorkies are full grown by 8 months. However, my boys both had a final growth spurt at 10 months. I have also read here that many Yorkies continue to fill out in their second year, especially small ones. |
My little one gained almost another 1/2 lb between one year and 18 months, guess they are all different.:) |
Every dog is different just like people. Mine have not completely stopped growing until they are about a year and a half. |
1 Attachment(s) I thought Jackson was done growing. He reached 12lbs by 6 months old and stayed at 12lbs up until he turned a year. At about 1 year 3 months old, we went to the vet and he was 16lbs! All muscle, because he's not overweight in any way! As of yesterday, he was 16.1lbs. :) Here's Jackson next to my friends 4.5lber Bandit. For size comparison! :D |
Wrigley had a big growth spurt after 9 months to a little over a year! She went from 3 1/2lbs to just a little over 6lbs! |
