"Breeder-done" vaccinations Ok folks, I know that I'm probably opening myself up for some scathing criticism, but possibly the health and future of my baby yorkie is at stake here. That is why I'm asking the experts . Yesterday I received an e-mail from the breeder that she has ALREADY given TWO 5-in-1 vaccines and "will need to give 4 total. He wil get one in 3 weeks from last Monday and then only need 1 more". (Quotations are her words). He has also been given bordetella and "thinks" he will need his rabies at 16 weeks. Connor is ONLY 9 WEEKS OLD! I had NO idea that she would start this early and she gave no "heads up" either! Has his health been compromised by starting this early and is there anything I can do? We're due to pick Connor up in a couple weeks and DH paid in full when we picked him out. |
Vaccinations should be given every 2-4 weeks (preferably 3-4 weeks) until 16 weeks minimum (preferably 18 weeks). What's done is done and nothing can be changed now. It was probably not the healthiest thing to do, but many people (breeders and vets) do it and it works out fine. I really would hope the breeder used a good vaccine though. Some are better than others and some of the ones sold at farm supply stores are just not good (less effective). |
