Tootsy is constipated - help please! Tootsy is usually very regular and goes potty every day during her walk. Today she only passed a small stool (sorry this is gross I know!) and she has been straining on and off all day. What can I give her to help without upsetting her sensitive tummy. I hope someone can help me. She has been eating a normal amount of food but not muchof her veggies for some reason. I give her wholegrain rice, chicken and veggies with supplements each day and she is fine on this usually. I m not sure why she has suddenly got constipated and can only assume it was because she did not want her veggies. |

Thanks for the link, Maximo. |
canned pumpkin without the sugar and that good fiber |
we use organic canned pumpkin from whole foods. |
Thanks for the reply, dwerten. I live in the UK and it is almost impossible to find canned pumpkin for some reason. Maybe I am not looking at the right stores/supermarkets, but I haven't found any, so I only have pumpkin when it in season. I even looked for frozen pumpkin, but you don't get that - probably doesn't freeze well? UPDATE :D The good news is, after a very uncomfortable night for Toots, where she she just didn't know what to do with herself, poor darling, my Hubbie decided to massage her tummy. With just 10-15 minutes of the massage she ran outside and passed a massive stool! She is so much happier, but very tired today. I am hoping the tiredness is just due to the uncomfortable night she had and not because she is feeling unwell. I'll just have to keep an eye on her today. I read a few articles on the net and found out that this attack of constipation is almost definitely due to her not eating her green beans and carrots over the past couple of days. They say that the green beans are particularly good roughage. She will be given them today and I will make sure she eats them, even if I have to flavor them with grated cheese or something! Thanks again for the replies. |
hot rod didn't like the pumpkin so I wound up mashing some carrots and peas into his food and it did the trick. good luck with our little one. |

I hope she is feeling better :) you want to food process veggies as it breaks the cellular wall allowing them to absorb the nutrients in the veggies. That is why you see carrots go right through them as they cannot break it down so either juicing or food processing is best for them to get the nutritional value :) |
