Jenna still has bad breath
 

So we've had Jenna a month now. A little over two weeks ago (?) she had her teeth cleaned and a few pulled that were in bad shape. I've got her on Royal Canin crunchies and DVP Natural Balance venison and sweet potato with the occasional foray back to Organix foods or a very few treats from our menu (usually steak and chicken).
She had lovely breath after her dental, but it's gotten steadily worse again. I mean, she's in my lap now and not breathing into my face and I can still smell it! I tried getting her to let me brush her teeth with the CET paste the vet gave me, but no dice....she won't tolerate it. I'm NOT getting her another shot of that pory-morphous whatever it is that they gave her, she had a bad reaction to it.
Greenies scare me from what I've read about them, so none of those. But it's obvious that food gets trapped in her remaining teeth and causes more trouble with her breath.
Any tips on keeping Jenna's breath fresher? She can't eat too much dry food because her water intake is abysmal and she got pretty constipated the other day from eating too much dry and not enough wet.
She's supposed to be no older than three, but she spends all day (and most of the night) sleeping. You get bursts of speed out of her and then boom! Out go the lights.
Any tricks of the trade for clean doggie teeth would be greatly appreciated, thank you! (especially for a fussy pup who doesn't want her mouth touched)

Maybe try an enzymatic toothpaste and apply it with a Q-Tip. Also, many dogs can be quite sensitive about their mouths after a dental.

Did the vet do any bloodwork prior to the dental?

May want to have her rechecked to be sure everything in her mouth is okay.

they gave her the dental vaccine?

Her breath should not smell after dental if they got all the bad teeth out. Did they do digital xrays?

It may be the food she is on. I have noticed with mine that with certain foods we tried ( even the grain free ones) made my dogs breath stink.

I have a new breath issue right now with Isabella. About a week or so ago she had a very loose tooth in the back of her mouth, it did come out on it's own, but ever since she has had very bad breath, I tried to look and see if anything has developed, but it's difficult to see.. Any suggestions? From what I've read, I see yorkies have teeth issues and sometimes need to have teeth extracted, just thinking, can there be an infection in there? She's 6 months old today, she's eating fine and acting fine... I can use some help on this please :)

sounds like infection to me as it is not normal for a dogs breath to be bad unless infection or they need a dental. I would have vet check it out

Build up of plaque is what makes the breath stink. Introduce her to a gauze or wash cloth w/your fingers in her mouth. Make teeth brushing time a fun time...make funny noises, praise her when she lets you put the cloth in her mouth. Gradually work up to finger brushes & toothbrushes. Mine actually like the CET toothpaste.

I think Magnus thinks of the toothbrush as a chewing toy. So while he chomps on it, I get few brushes in between the chomping. I also sort of sneak in the brushing during the weekend when I purposely get him all tired out and towards the end of the night, he'll be too tired to actually care. LOL
