Seeker wont eat :( oksy i know we have only had the little guy for not even 24 hours but he wont eat. he is 9 weeks, 1.4 lbs. he isnt sick, isnt showing ANY signs oh hypoglycemia, he is really doing great. he slept in a blocked off area next to our bed, and got up and pee'd one his wee wee pad about 2 times over night...then again downstairs this am.... he will eat milkbone chewy treats but wont eat his food....ive tried adding water, warming it up, handfeeding, everything, but he just doesnt want it, i tried mixing up the treat into the food, and he just gets the little pieces of treat out of it.... any advice? |

Are you feeding him what he's used to eating ? If he was on something else he may be confused or just adjusting to his new home - lots of us used what our breeder used then incorporated our food of choice into their dishes slowly - I hope you get him to eat ! and congratulations - there's nothing like a new puppy...... |
When we got Lily our breeder told us not to worry if she was off her food for a couple of days as she settled in. We were fortunate that she ate like a horse from the start :D Being that your puppy is so little there is a chance the treats are enought to fill the little belly but im no expert. Congratulations on your new little puppy and hope to see some cute pictures soon yvonne xx |
He was gifted to my daughter from her aunt. And i dont think my SIL ever asked what kind of food he ate. So, after some research i got Nutro Natural Puppy small bits.... i searched the forums and read some boiled chicken is okay??? i just want to make sure he eats. I did a bit of pancake syrup on a spoon with food over it and he got SOME in his belly...mainly the syrup :) |
There;s a product called Nutrical that is designed to prevent or treat hypoglycemia - but only in tiny doses - you don't want him to have too much - just a fingertip. Honey works too if you think he's falling from lack of nutrition - it's sold in most pet stores - (petco - petsmart etc) - it's good to have on hand when you get a puppy or have a tiny ps - He's drinking water correct ? That's very important also |
i know, i HAVE to get it...i should have picked it up but was sticker shocked with the food price in Pet Smart. does walmart or target carry nutrical?? I had it when we had a pekingese as a baby.... |
okay so I HOPE THIS IS OKAY for a baby but....i make my 2 kids fresh soup almost daily. so i gave him some shredded chicken, some broth and some mashed up carrots and he ate it:) i tried mixing in his food a bit, (cause i believe he need more than carrots and chicken) and he wasnt too into it....so please, tell me that its okay for him to eat that!! what else can i try? some squash? sweet potatoe? i know there was a sticky uptop, but i want to make sure thats for babies too...what about calcium. ill have to go get some vitamins today.... gosh, my 2 kids were SO MUCH EAsier as babies, i jsut breastfed them! lol |
okay i was hoping to get another response before now, but again, this afternoon i gave him leftver soup...with food mixed in....the food didnt blend good though.... someone please let me know if i am harmng him or not |

i mean its homemade soup,....i dont do much salt since i make it for my 2 year old and 5 year old children.... i just wish he would eat normally. maybe i should return it to petsmart and try something new??? |
Have you tried soaking the kibble with boiling water, then let it cool down, it should make it very soft. And limit the treats. |
my guess is he is such a tiny one the treats alone are probably filling him up. Try not giving the treats maybe softening the kibble with a few drops of water. |
The main thing is getting him to eat something. I found when I had a picky tiny one that they would eat Cesars wet food. I know it is garbage, but they ate it and then I gradually changed them over to a good food. Hope you can get him to eat more. |
