My family's previous dogs ate grass only when they wanted to vomit. Max and Teddy eat grass every chance they get. I cannot understand why they keep going back to it because they always get it caught in their throats. Then they stand there hacking and coughing, but they never throw up. |

but i know when dex had pancreatitis and we let him out to go potty after returning home from hospital he started to try and eat grass and they told me not to let him eat grass Also, whenever he gets out of car as he gets car sick he goes to eat grass to make himself throw up that is my only experience with grass eating. |
I just read in the magazine the vet sends out that dogs eat grass because they like it. Not to make themselves throw up. I don't remember what the name of the publication is tho. Thats what i read...so don't hold me accountable for the info!:) |
I think they eat it because Yorkies originally evolved from a Wolf/cow hybrid... :D |
My baby eats it too! Mostly when her tummy is upset:( |
How do we know if they eat grass to throw up or do eat grass and then throw up? It is the what came first, the chickenor the egg?! I allow Mabel to eat grass because she likes to. she likes to pull it up and will munch like a goat! She throws up maybe 40% of the time! She also loves to dig holes and root around in the GA red clay! We really can't tell what color she is because she is permanently stained! The vet commented that she was not very delicate or refined! She is terrier 110%!!!:) |
Jackson eats grass too. He eats a lot of it at my dads house when we're out back in the fenced in yard. It also seems like it's when he's tired, or bored, or sometimes when he's hyper... sometimes he will be like running around like a mad man chasing the other dogs and then he's like *chomp chomp chomp* on grass, then *run run run*. LOL. He's such a freak! :p All my dads dogs do it. They all just graze like cows. |
Mine eat it all the time. If their tummies are upset, they vomit. If their tummies are fine, it's a salad! Sometimes they have trouble biting it and it appears to act more like dental floss. (seriously) I think if your dog isn't used to eating it, to allow them to eat small amounts here and there, then more as they become accustomed to it. Eventually, they won't crave it quite as much and will stop trying to eat the whole field! And take proper precautions, look for clean, untreated areas. |

I searched for an answer to my Pixie eats grass (we wanna blame my mother in law feeding her regualr food) and seen you have a Pixie to! :) |
Cissy eats grass on occasion but ONLY Bermuda grass. She is a very picky eater, we go round and round with trying foods but geez, picky about the type of grass she eats? :confuse2: Aww - my little princess |
Mine only eat grass, when they've already eaten something they shouldn't have ie.bug or something (?) and, they do throw up, afterwards...Seems, what they shouldn't have eaten does come up w/the grass, so I guess it's just "nature's way"... |
Maxine has never eaten Grass. Carlo started eating grass, a lot of grass, and a week later he had the Tumor removed from his Interstines. If they go crazy eating it, it may be a sign of some GI problem. |

The official answer is in! Why do dogs eat grass? because they can! LOL I don't think we'll ever really know, so i guess we'll just leave it at that!:D |
Elliott doesn't eat grass that is growing, but he loves going after the caked up grass/mulch that falls out of the bottom of the lawnmower. |
