Hair not growing on hind legs Ok, this is the 2nd or 3rd time that I write asking for help on this matter. Molly's hair on her back legs are not growing at all. They look like they have been shaved. On our last vet visit (March) I was told to watch it and see if things improve. I also took her to get groomed in April and my groomer commented on it and had me change her food, but I still see no improvement. We go in tomorrow for a vet visit & blood work bc I just dont think that the hair has gotten any longer. It doesn't look like its fallen out, just shaved. Please, any suggestions or comments would be appreciated. |
Maybe a photo would help. Ask the vet if it could be a skin issue? Maybe its a glitch in the DNA. It could also be allergies. Im not sure what food your feeding her but if its not top quality maybe think about changing it, adding some vitamins as well. I would start there. Ask the vet to do some skin testing and make sure its not bacterial. Because its not all over I personally don't think its thyroid. But I could be wrong. Unless shes has patches all over??? Does the hair look fine or corse? Maybe its just lacking in color and seams to be thin? Maybe b/c shes still in the puppy stage shes not growing her full coat of hair yet. She may also have alopecia. Its rare in dogs but you never know. |
There is such a thing as red legged yorkies and their hair doesnt grow very long on the legs. Its genetic. It would be helpful to see a picture |
if it looks "shaved" your dog is most likely gnawing at its legs.... my Shelby does this once and a while, in fact i posted about something like this about a year and a half or so ago :) she had blood work done, allergy tests, etc and there was nothing abnormal.... it turned out to be a habitual thing, she seems to chew on her backside near her rear and hind legs when she is angsty or bored i guess lol i ended up buying her a "cone" and it helps. It's an "every now and then" thing for her, she hadnt done it in a long time (since after my last post) but started up again when we started moving to our new place, after this i now believe that it is a nervous habit and/or anxiety related. |
Thanks for the info....we took Molly for her bloodwork this morning and the vet said she feels it will be the thyroid. I will post results when we get them. She also said that it starts in the legs and can continue throughout the body. Glad that we didn't wait to long to see about it!! I will also post a picture to let you guys see what it looks like. |
