Anyone Familiar with Inguinal Hernias? Indy (6.5 months old) has an inguinal hernia and she is scheduled to be spayed in June. At her vet appointment today her hernia wouldn't pop out for the vet to re-examine it. She said on the day of her spay she'll take another look at it to see if it should be fixed, as she doesn't want to unnecessarily operate on Indy. The vet said it's likely that the hernia will heal on its own as she is still growing. My husband and I check Indy several times daily and massage the hernia back in if it's sticking out. So my question is: has anyone had a puppy with an inguinal hernia that healed on its own? Thanks in advance for everyone's help. :) |
Tucker (a year and 7 months) had one. His was pretty large and would cause him some issues (gas bubbles would get stuck and made it protrude) and made him uncomfortable for a little while. I would rub it and slowly push his intestines back in he would feel better. We had his fixed at 4.5 months old (neutered at the same time) because it wasnt closing on its own and the vet was afraid it would continue to cause issues. He recoverd fine, wouldnt of even know he had one. :) |
Hello. I'm also worried about our little Kenzie's previous inguinal hernia. She had it removed before we got her, she's running and jumping and all happy. 2 vets checked her just to be sure she's ok she's totally healed from the surgery, they told us she's perfectly fine, that inguinal hernias are a common yorkie issue and that we need to keep an eye on her til she's 8 months old and/or gets her 1st heat. If you have more info, please let us know :) |
