HELP! Sasha is constipated! So this morning when I took her out to potty (she always pees and poops in the morning, as she is crated all night due to training) she went pee just fine but she struggled with having a bowel movement. She tried for about ten minutes and I could see a little bit sticking out of her (of which I removed with a wet wipe to try and help her out) but she just couldn't go. She still hasn't gone and it's been hours... what can I do to help her? Is there something in particular I can give her to eat or drink to help her go? She never eats people food, and I haven't changed her puppy food, so I don't know what could be causing this? Does this have anything to do with her anal glands? Do they need to be expressed? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! |
Give her some pumpkin. Also she may have eaten a stick or something that has turned and is preventing her from going. |
Lots and lots of fresh water and then just be patient. Sometimes it just happens. :( Very normal in the life of a puppy. |
I also agree with Bchgirl, a little pumpkin would help and if she seems to be in pain or anything, I would take her to a vet. |

Poor Sasha! I went through this recently with Max. Try pumpkin and water, a warm bath, and if possible, exercise (ideally, walking). Here is my thread from when my little one was sick: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...-possibly.html |
Make sure no hair is stuck around her butt, that can stop a poop real quick. If she doesn't take to eating the pumpkin, cooked green beans added to their food can make BMs more comfortable. You can also add water to her food to increase her intake. If she has a lot of gas (bloated), you can use Mylecon (simethicone) drops. As stated though, you don't want to let it continue for too long.... |
If she is eating you can add the pumpkin right to her food with a little warm water to make a gravy. Mine all love pumpkin. Also the green beans are a great idea too. Poor baby it hurts not to poop. :( *make sure that it is packed canned pumpkin and not pumpkin pie filling LIBBYS Pumpkin Power |
HI...We just had the same problem...and all the above posts are correct...Pumpkin is the way to go...I bought Trader Joes organic pumpkin in a can...just scooped a tsp. size over food 2 times a day for a couple days...and that did the trick! He also LOVED it!!! Good luck! Jen....Oliver and Scout mom! |
Just wanted to tell everyone thanks that posted their input! Sasha is doing much better, it passed in a day, she was back to pooping away lol! |
