What age did your female have her 1st heat?
 
I called my vet today to make an appt to have my little girl spayed and was surprised that they talked me out of it. She is 5 months old and they said to wait another month, my only concern is I don't want her to have her 1st heat before I get it done. I know the norm is anywhere beween 6 and 8 months. So I'm wondering what age others got their females spayed at and if they had a heat? Opinions?

I waited until 10 months old and Chloe had still not gone into heat at that point.

I had 3 come into heat at 8 to 8 1/2 months and one at a year.

My cutie was around one year old when she had her first heat. I was totally unaware when I saw bloody discharge from her for the first time and I rush to a vet. Finally I came to know that it's her first heat.

I'm worried about my puppy too. I couldn't get her scheduled for an appt. til after she's 8 months and right now she's barely 7 months.

What is their normal behavior before they go into heat? I think she's been acting a little weird lately, but I don't know if I'm just being too concerned.

Uni didn't have her first heat until 13 months. I though maybe she had been spayed before we got her! (impossible) I would wait until at least 8 months, even if she goes into heat once, just be super careful. The reason being is if she retains any baby teeth to get those out at the same time as spay. If she is not in any contact with intact males until then, you have nothing to worry about.

Elsy did not come in heat until she was 2 yrs 11 mos. but this is not typical. All of my other yorkies came in heat at 9 months.

Our vet wanted us to have her spayed between 5-6 months. Anyone think this is abnormal? She is very aware of boys ... thank god she's only a furbaby.
