Thanks. Cooper's belly has been unsettled for a while, ad I have a feeling it's because of his late night rush/game eating. I'm stopping all treats this week also. I gave him 1/2 of 7/8 this morning and he took a few bites. I'll give him the rest tonight at 6pm. Glad Jackson is getting settled. |
I'm always checking my dogs' body condition, especially the one with LS to make sure they're keeping weight on and not losing it. Also, she's the most active, which does need to be taken into consideration. I have found out, through trial and error, that the very first place that will show loss of condition/weight is the spine directly behind the shoulder blades. In good weight, the spine should feel like there's a layer or two of fat between it and the skin. When that area gets skinny feeling, I may increase or add to their food that day. I check them daily, and adjust the amount accordingly. (I start with the amount recommended on the bag or can.) When they feel skinny in that spot, they all still maintain good condition in the rib and hip areas. This is very important to me, because it allows me to catch a potential problem early on. If I can't get that little bit of weight back on through feed adjustments in the next week, we will be seeing the vet. Also, this is a very good habit to get into, because with many Yorkies, one cannot tell if their body weight/condition is good by visual inspection alone, due to their coats. |
Just wanted to say i think him & Brownie Are exactly the same size. Brownie should be 16 or so pounds he's getting there he's at 18. |
