Snick has an itchy nose.... Hi friends... So, Snick has had an itchy nose for the past few weeks and I am getting concerned b/c he scratches it so often and now the fur is starting to thin out on 1 side of his little nose:(. Any idea why?? I was thinking environmental allergies maybe, he is outside alot and sniffs EVERYTHING, could that be why? He is on BEEF Primal right now and Grasslands Acana, I think I might pick up Chicken Primal today and move back to his Prairie Acana to see if it helps. He had a bath last week and I MADE SURE to rinse out his beard and face area completely. I use Yorkie Splash n Shine and thought maybe that was it, so used BuddyWash like we used to and he is still itching. Hoping the protein change might help....any insights?? Hugs- Snick & Viv |
This time of year it could be seasonal type allergies. My Cali has allergies and she would scratch he face really bad. If the food change doesn't help and he continues to scratch I would have your vet check him. Hope he stops scratching soon. |
Thanks Patti!!! I thought so, hopefully the food switch will help!!! Any other insights??? Hugs- Snick & Viv |
Hey Vivian, It sounds like you're on the right path to solving your problem. It could be the food or it could be seasonal allergies. Is there any sneazing involved? IDK if that would help narrow it down from "stuff in the air/grass" to whether it's the food. My only experience with scratching was with Sophie. When I first brought her home she would scratch her body (not her face) a lot! I thought it was her shampoo/conditioner. So between myself and her groomer we were forever trying different bath products. Even using the "oatmeal" shampoos and condition. When none of that worked, the only thing left (because it was December and there was no pollen) was the food she was eating. At the time I was feeding Royal Canine. Although a lot of Yorkie's do well on this food, it was not to be for Sophie. Once I made the switch to a grain free food, her scratching stopped. In addition, her coat improved and her eye goop is very minimal. I have the same results for my two Biewrs. For Sophie, changing her food was the answer. Good luck and I hope you figure it out! :) |
Thanks Sherry!!!!!! I am keeping my fingers crossed, I really appreciate you sharing your similar experience....that's exactly what I need!!!! Hugs- Viv |
