Please offer advise on Fizz question. I took Fizz to the vet when we got him...he weighed 6.4 lbs. We had him on antibiotics for his extreme ear infections...both oral and drops for the ear. two weeks and the ears are great...vet was very pleased. After the groomer. I took him in for vaccinations and he weighed 6 lbs even...He was so scruffy when we got him I figured a little of that was hair. He was acting funny yesterday doing the fanny drag...so I took him to vet and he did need anal glands expressed. Weighed him and he is now 5.6 lbs. He eats his food but to get him to eat more than 1/4 +cup of food in a day a chore...he stays closer to the 1/4 per day. So I worry that he has lost wieght. His personality is showing and he has energy. (forgot to say vet thinks he is 5 to 7 years old) He will eat snacks...but dog biscuts are not healthy so I don't give him a ton...not a good filler I think. Post if you need me to clarify anything. Thanks in advance for assistance |

Did the vet think he needed to gain or lose weight? Can you feel his ribs? Our two little ones are in the 6lb range. When we fed them Nature's Variety, they both ate 1/4 cup a day (1/8 twice a day, we do two feedings) + we always mixed in green beans and a touch of wet food. They get a treat first thing in the morning & one at night. We just switched to Fromm food & we have increased the amount a little bit because it doesn't seem to fill them as much + we are using Primal raw. There are good snacks & treats out there. Right now we just bought Zukes. |
Some questions...Have he always been a light eater? Could he have been a little overweight to begin with? Has he been checked for worms? My kidz think dry kibble is beneath them so I put about 1/2 tablespoon of Wellness soft food in theirs, mix it up and the eat everything in front of them. |
I don't know about the light eater question as we found him roaming the streets about a month and a half ago...so eating habits are hard to gage. Right now I am feeding him Iams dry dog food. Nice to know that 1/4 cup is not to little. I can feel his ribs and his hip bones...but not to bony just there. Most days he seems to eat just never finishes as total amount put down was closer to half a cup...so never finishes all of it. Where can I look for some of the healthy treats? |

He was checked for worms and came up clear...The other poster asked if the vet thought he should lose. The vet said his weight was good and that he was not over wiehgt. I want to add that I trust my vet alot. He is a genuine animalk lover and still goes for continuing education after being a vet for 15 years now. He is to go in for a full teeth cleaning and nueter on the 18th...and I know they will fully recheck him and do an anethstesia(SP) protocal then. |

I live just around the corner from one...These little guys are so different from the "mutts" I am used to...doing my very best to do what is best for the little guy...what kind of green beans raw or canned? |

Complete Pet Mart has a lot of the good brands: Nature's Variety Merrick Wellness Innova Canidae etc... We just switched to Fromm and we bought it from a place called Pet People in Montgomery, OH because our Complete Pet mart doesn't carry it. They will special order it in. Some of them do carry it, the one by us is just a small one and they don't have it in stock. If the one by you is large, they will probably have the majority of good quality foods! They are great though because they will take the food back if your dogs do not like it, which is good! That way you aren't stuck with a bunch of food they won't eat. They also have sticker cards to fill up for free bags & cans of food! |
I always see folks talking about green beans...fresh? frozen? canned? would you be willing to clarify that too? |

The problem with canned is they are usually high in sodium, though they have low sodium options. I also think buying a large frozen brand from someplace like Costco is less expensive. I wanted to add, all three of ours LOVE green beans! Even Crosley who won't touch most veggies or fruits! She's like me, she loves snacks & treats! :p |
do you thaw them first? and how many at a time |

I usually put 4-5 in with Wrigley's food. They are long & skinny. She eats the green beans first & then goes back for the kibble! I think some do feed frozen, just rinsed off. I'm sure everyone varies on the amount too. I think I read if you feed fresh, they need to be cooked first. Something about the wax residue on them, but we just buy the frozen! |
