Sentinel + Nausea I just gave Lucy her 2nd dose of Sentinel. She had her first one in April and did just fine. This evening, though, she threw up immediately afterward. All of her food. Has anyone else ever had this happen? I'll probably have to call the Vet to see if I should give her another one . . . or what. She took Interceptor all winter - but we wanted to use something for fleas and ticks since I found a tick on Ringo last month. Her vet won't give her Comfortis because she is still under 4 lbs. |
I don't use it, so no personal experience. Vomiting is a rare side effect and you will need to redose, but maybe not today and maybe back to Interceptor if vet wants to do that... BTW, Sentinel does nothing for ticks at all. |
Cooper has been on Sentinel for 2 years and has never had a reaction. Let's see what your vet says. Sentinel doesn't protect against ticks?? :2omg: |
I know this is a stupid question . . but she has mild MVD as well so I don't want to give her too much. Should I feed her dinner again? Or just let her tummy settle until later tonight and feed a snack? I get so worried about her. My Westie could throw up and I wouldn't blink an eye - at least till the following day. But Lucy . . . I'm always scared with her. She's running around like nothing's wrong. |
I've used Sentinel of 4 dogs (one Maltese and three Yorkies), and I've never seen any sort of side effect. That doesn't guarantee that you won't, though. Out of these four dogs, I've had the Maltese the longest ... 14 years. I've never had a tick on any of them, I guess I have just never had them in an area where they would be prone to pick up ticks. If I ever see a tick (yuck, yuck, yuck), I would probably change out their meds to prevent that but so far I haven't had the need. |
Are her gums pink? I'm sure she's fine. If she is hungry, it probably won't hurt to feed her a bit. Since Sentinel is just Inceptor (milbemycin oxime) plus the added lufenuron for fleas and Interceptor doesn't have to be given with a meal, then it is probably the lufenuron. May just want to go back to that... |
Im not trying to kill your thread. But was their a recall in the last 6 years on sentinel? I ask b/c I think I remember my vet telling me he no longer offered it he chose to do a heartguard pill and the drops after some kind of problem. But I don't remember what the problem was... |
The Vet told me yesterday to give her another dose of the Sentinel. I waited until this morning and gave it to her with breakfast (and a few cooked carrots to disguise the pill). It's been 30 minutes; so far - so good. I'm going to try and watch her for at least an hour so I'll know for sure. |
