Colitis I am having trouble learning to use this site. Bailey is 6 mos. old. He had a bout with Girardi, still had symptoms. Vet gave me an Albon mixture. His food is Royal Cannin. It was mixed with Bill Jack, stopped that. Vet tells me to use Science Diet. First ingredient is wheat. Specialty store says Canidae is as bland as it gets. Vet did say its a digestability problem. I'm confused. He's fine, its just a pain when it occurs. Hasn't had it today. It seems to be on and off. Anyone have any suggestions. Thanks in advance. |
Hi and welcome to YT. Giardia can leave scarring in the intestinal tract which can lead to long-term digestive issues. There is a wonderful pet nutritionist, Susan Davis, who has worked with many of our pups with outstanding results. (Pet Health Pet Nutritionist Holistic Pet) Please do not use Science Diet. There are some great foods out there. If the vet is saying it is a digestibility diet, then you need foods that are easily digestible - most basic kibbles will not fit this bill. With digestive issues, the best thing you can do is get him on a daily probiotic. If he is having trouble digesting his food, then digestive enzymes may be needed. He may need other things down the road, but you can't go wrong with a consultation with Susan regarding his diet. |

Great post! I agree, probiotics with added enzymes, like the one NaturVet sells would be an excellent addition to help with his GI issues. Also think Science Diet is not the way to go. Would suggest another food that has limited ingredients, but maintains high quality proteins. |
Thanks everyone for the great information. I bought Canidae and mixed it with Royal Canin. He won't eat the R.C. So far so good, the protein content on the RC is very high. May have been too much. Keeping my fingers crossed. If this doesn't work I will call the nutritionist. |
