Acana kibble size
 
I've recently begun feed Acana and love everything about it except the large kibble size. I e-mailed Champion Pet Foods to ask about the possibility of a line of small bite foods. I thought I would share their reply here. It was a little disappointing, but there's still hope!


Hello Bonny,

Thank you for your email. We have been asked by many consumers (with dogs both large and small) asking us to consider making ACANA kibble in two different sizes. At this time we have no immediate plans to change the size of the kibble but it might be something that we will consider in the future.

Hey Bonnie...I wrote them about the same thing, and got the same response...That was before I got it...However, both of mine do fine w/the kibble...I do know that Vivian (viviansnickers) cracks snickers' acana w/a nut cracker lol...I guess I would do that, if they didn't eat it, but thank goodness they do...In fact, they love it!!! I'm still feeding raw in the a.m. and Acana Grasslands, in the evening...Apple & Buzz didn't like the Prairie, but they love the grasslands...Next time I'm going to try the Pacifica...Why not give it a whirl?

I'm so thankful that mine don't have any problem with the kibble size, either. I do wish it were just a little smaller, though.

Mine have loved both the Pacifica and the Grasslands. I think I'm going to rotate between them each time I buy a new bag. As you know, I can't feed the Prairie or I'd rotate between all 3.

I just love this food! :)

Yep, Bonny, I wish it were a little smaller too...Apple scarfs it right down, w/no problem, but Buzz struggles w/it a little bit...And Apple has smaller teeth! But, Apple is a little piglet, too :p Buzz is a real laid back mellow little guy, and doesn't get in a hurry, when he eats ...I love this food, too...Before raw, I couldn't find anything Apple would eat (Acana wasn't out yet) and she only weighed 4 1/2 lbs...way too little...I got her up to about 5 lbs. on raw, but I bet she's over that, now, since starting Acana, in the evening...I may have to cut her back (I'm giving her 1/4 cup), but she's really going to be ticked off, if I do lol...She still thinks I'm not feeding her enough :rolleyes:...Or at least that's what she told me ;)

Ryan, I'm at work right now but I'll try later. I thought there was an older thread with a picture of the Acana kibble but I can't find it. It's between the size of a dima and a nickel.

Actually, Bonny, I just measured a kibble against a dime, and it's a little smaller than a dime...I did several pieces, to be sure...about 3/4 the size of a dime...Of course, you have to consider the thickness..it's about 1/8"

Oh, that's much better sizewise then! I'm terrible at estimating sizes and distances. :p I was sitting here with all these coins on my desk, saying to myself "no, it's definitely smaller than a quarter...." So glad no one walked by and saw me. :rolleyes:

We wanted to try Acana, but we were told by a few stores here in Ohio that they are not allowed to have Acana shipped here because of something with their packaging. I'm not sure what the deal is, but they said Ohio is one of few states who has certain regulations on packaging.
Has anyone heard of this?
We went with Fromm and so far so good!

I have to cut up the Acana w/scissors lol. It's much thicker & densely packed than NB kibble, so they were having a hard time breaking it up. Princess got tummy aches bc she was swallowing it whole. That nut cracker thing sounds easier...kekee.

Yes... I have nothing else better to do for now! ;)

Perfect size for Jackson. I always thought the NV Instinct and Fromm may have been too small for him, but he did well on both.

Maybe bc Champion Foods doesn't use Ethoxyquin in their foods? While here in the US, it's required by law/U.S. Coast Guard regulation to be put in the fish before being transported. Just a thought...
