My dog has a rash on all four of his paws This is not my yorkie, it's my bigger and older dog. Im not even sure if its a rash or cuts but he is also loosing fur in the areas. Does anyone know why this is happening? They just keep appering and I do not know what to do cause my older dog does not have his shot to go to the vet and it's not my fault its my parents! I was little when we got him and they did not want to take him to get his shots. |
Our working dog (he herds cows) got a bad fungal infection several years ago while away working cattle for several months. He had gotten dirt and poop and other odds and ends stuck between the webbing of his feet and w/o a proper bath to wash this stuff out got what our vet related it to athletes foot. He took a scraping from the foot to make sure but provided us with some med. I forget the name of it because it's been a really long time ago. Also if your parents put down weed killer or lyme or any type of grass grower/killer he may be walking thru this to use the potty and he may have a reaction to this. Does it seam to be painful or irritating to the dog? If not, I don't think your parents would opt to take him to the vet anyways. But if it is painful maybe you could offer to pay half the bill. I know for a fact that my vet treats dogs w/o shots. He just has them come into a different area of the clinic. He does give them info for local providers of discounted shots as well. (maybe you can look into that option too?) |

I dont think its painful to him I usually just see him licking it all the time. Also its not just on his paws but on his legs. He's a little over 13 years and not sure if giving him shots at this age is good or not. But if you take a dog that does not have shots to the vet what do you think they will do |
Call ahead first make sure your vet knows and allows non vaccinated dogs. Like i mentioned before my vet has a specific area he prefers unvaccinated dogs in. Let them know what the problem is ahead of time and it's ok to get an estimate of cost. The cost of the visit it's self and anything that they may test for. Can I also suggest something to try first since it doesn't seam to be painful. Their are different names out there but the generic term I know it know as is "hot spot" Its the irritated skin area. I am not saying a vet exam is not needed but, in the mean time till you can get him in or convence your parents to get him into the vet this may be beneficial Veterinary Q & A: Hot Spots - your veterinary questions answered |

This isnt something we can diagnose over the internet... if this is affecting all four paws, the hair, and up the legs... the dog needs to be seen by a vet as soon as possible. |
Like everyone else, I would recommend a trip to the vet asap. About the vaccines... directions say not to give to an ill dog. Since your pup is having a skin issue, I feel certain that means your dog should not receiving them anyway. My Yorkie had skin issues for months and my regular vet could not get a diagnosis. Then, finally found out there are Vet Dermatologists for skin problems and made an appointment. (Which I highly recommend.) Just wanted to throw that information out to you, in case you are like me and didn't realize this fact. Hope things get figured out soon. |
