Dry Skin :aimeeyorkMy 6 month old Yorkie, Gabi, has very dry skin and is always scratching. I comb and brush her evryday and see quite a bit of dandruff afterwards. i do not believe this is an allergy reaction to food, etc. Any recommendations on how to treat this dry skin? |
There's a few things you can try... 1) Try a food with a higher concentration of Omega 3's and 6's, Like Orijen Six Fish or Acana Pacificia. 2) Try adding Salmon oil to the Diet, most Salmon oil normally have a lot of Omega 3's that what most pet food lacks. 3) Add digestive enzymes to help your yorkie absorb all the nutrition in the food. 4) Switch to a Soap Free shampoo, something like TheraNeem |
It could be from the shampoo...whcih kind are you using?? Also, coco oil works wonders for dry skin :) |
Thanks for both responses. I have switched her foods to ones with no wheat/grains included. She has been scratching since I got her from the breeder at age 18 weeks. She will be 24 weeks next week. I do not believe it is from shampoo. I will add some supplements as suggested. Poor thing! Such a dandruff problem! |
Maybe you're not rinsing well enough after a bath. I know I had that problem the first couple times I gave my boy a bath. He also scratched and had little white "dandruff like" flakes which I learned came from the shampoo residue. Try rinsing a little more than you think is needed...maybe that will help. |
I had to take Patches to the vet for scratching he has oily/ dry-normal skin. Hot spots also and a odor the vet diagnosed him with seborrheic dermatitis, gave him a prescription shampoo to use two or three times a week for three weeks and an antibiotic Patches & Winnie |
Try a little Head and Shoulders. I'm not retarded, I just don't proofread my posts |
